Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I heard Colter Wall’s “Evangelina” on my way to take my kids to a day camp this morning, and now the song is stuck in my head.
I googled CW and read that he is a 20-some year old Canadian, but he sounds like an old country singer from the 70’s. Every time I hear Colter Wall and Charlie Crockett on satellite radio, they kind of stop me in my tracks!!!

Colter Wall is the real deal, an actual cowboy singing cowboy songs like an old timer. I've seen him live a few times and he's got a great band. As for his voice I would've sworn it was Johnny Cash singing on stage. His self titled record is pretty effin good...
Everyone needs a friend, everyone needs a fuck
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Clams, when we get the band back together, “Pretty Effin’ Good” should be our first single!!!
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I love this record & hope at some point Sturgill goes back to rocking. The bluegrass is stuff is good & all but puts me to sleep.

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - Weathervanes
Turn it up to 10 and rip off the knob
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Same. Good stuff, though it falls squarely into "if you already like him, you'll like this, but if you didn't, there's nothing here to change your mind"
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

New Isbell. I like it more than I expected to.
New Jimbo Mathus- Since 1967

play another song like the one you just played
Crank the drums, crank the bass
crank that shit all over the place"

This has wildly exceeded my expectations. The King of Oklahoma is absolutely stunning and on par with Outfit, Elephant, Goddamn Lonely Love, et al. Makes me think of Smitty.Sterling Bigmouth wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
First listen so I reserve the right to change my opinions substantially, but for the moment:
About half the songs are absolute killer, top shelf Jason which is pretty much as good as it gets. "King of Oklahoma" really jumped out at me. "Cast Iron Skillet" had a lot of pre-release buzz (though I only listened once) so it's not a surprise but I gotta say the buzz got it right.
Virtually all the rest are at least very good. Only one song that I simply didn't care for but since it's only one listen I won't name it yet. As an album, Weathervanes hangs together very well and that aspect of the listening experience will undoubtedly ripen for the better as I listen more.
Obvious DBT influence is obvious on a number of cuts and that's all for the better imho.
Obvious Little Feat influence ("All That You Dream") is obvious on parts of the vocal on "Middle of the Morning."
Obvious Neil Young influence is obvious to the point of distraction on the first part of "Miles."
What used to be is gone and what ought to be ought not to be so hard

PS Most intriguing lyrics: "Vestavia Hills". "The boy genius is grown now..."
