August 13 DBT The Caverns Pelham, TN

Post by Beaverdam »

I was all jazzed to buy tickets. I think this would be the perfect environment in which to take my kids to a DBT show, but a code was required?

Do any of you have information which you can share???

I saw Deertick once in the other caverns (Cumberland Caverns), and it was an amazing evening!

I don't know anything about this place but it appears that ticket prices have more to do w/ the tourist attraction aspects than with the band, which helps explain where that very surprising $75 number comes from. But I do want to point out, FWIW, that a ticket alone w/out a tour or the other available extras is $60. Not great, but better. I hope the band is getting its fair share of that.

Dr. John, I’m not trying to pry, but are you reluctant due to covid or the cave itself? I have been to Cumberland Caverns, and the concert area is much more spacious than the 40 watt!

Wasn’t even thinking about Covid. But now that you mention it, I’ve been on some cavern tours and the ventilation leaves much to be desired

So I bought tickets with an agreement from my wife that we’d take the kids. At first I am 99% sure something said the show was supposed to start in the morning, like 10 or 11, and that’s what prompted my wife to give me the green light for the ticket purchase. Then I thought I saw 5pm, and that time was ok too, but now everything seems to say 8pm, and my wife says 8 is too late for my kids.

Am I imagining things???

I’m thinking on this one. How much of a logistical nightmare is the location of this place in regards to transportation from BNA/CHA?

Doesn't this place have an above ground venue also? Could the show be there, covid and all?

They have been holding shows in the underground venue for several months.

I'm currently pondering this one. Just booked the Maryville show that's a couple of weeks earlier and I'm thinking about making this one too.

So….

We decided that the show is just too late for my daughter especially after her first week of school; however, I am still coming with my son, beaverdamsfinlaw (Bryan), and my brother-in-law.

I think that my son may have seen an in-store, afternoon record day show or something similar as an infant on toddler, but this will be his first full on Rock Show. Murphy is turning twelve in a few months so of course my enthusiasm outweighs his, but this still should be fun! Perhaps after adolescence he’ll realize how cool I really am?!?

I've decided to pass on this one between the ticket prices and no hotels real close by and wanting more time at home, though it was a hard decision after how great the Maryville show was.

Hope Murphy and brother-in-law dig it.

Does anyone know if the show is being taped for Bluegrass Underground?

I think Bryan is pumped to have three generations present tomorrow night!

I attempted to keep a set list, but I failed. My son enjoyed the show overall, but we did not buy VIP tickets, and vip’s were standing in front of the regular ticket holders. We were “on the rail” of the regular section, but my son could see very little, so we moved around often. Also, in an attempt to protect his hearing, my son was wearing a head set, but apparently it was too effective and completely precluded him from hearing; however, I didn’t realize this until later.

The show was good. We got Troglodyte and Goode’s Field Road. I’d seen the saxophone before, but I don’t remember seeing the “trumpet”. We got some nice family photos with our good friend, Flea…Christmas card quality!

I enjoyed Wednesday (opening band) and talked to the band members a little when Murphy needed a break; I particularly enjoyed their pedal steel sound. I didn’t realize how young they were until our conversation!

Till next time….

At some point yesterday, I had the feeling I'd made a big mistake not going. Then I saw the setlist and it was confirmed. Looks like it was one fantastic night.

Going to this one would have put me driving out of state three of the last four weekends. With fall backpacking season looming when I'm in the woods most weekends, it was nice to have another weekend at home, but this one will probably stick out as my "always go to the show" example.

In a year, I'm not gonna remember what I did this weekend, but I would have remembered this show. Getting Panties in Your Purse and Troglodyte and The Tough Sell along the way, then closing out with Slow Ride/Let There Be Rock/Surrender/KKK/People Who Died sounds like a hell of a good time.

I'm happy for y'all who were there to see it.

Based on set list alone, this has to be the best show of the tour thus far in my opinion.

Here it is for those who haven't seen:

Bulldozers and Dirt
Panties in Your Purse
My Sweet Annette
Marry Me
Drag the Lake Charlie
Where the Devil Don't Stay
The Driver
Made Up English Oceans
Rosemary With a Bible and a Gun
A Ghost to Most
Buttholeville->
State Trooper->
Buttholeville
Maria's Awful Disclosures
We Will Never Wake You Up in the Morning
Every Single Storied Flameout
Lookout Mountain
Gravity's Gone
The Tough Sell
Troglodyte
Shit Shots Count
Goode's Field Road
Women Without Whiskey
Welcome 2 Club XIII
Slow Ride Argument
Let There Be Rock
Surrender Under Protest
The KKK Took My Baby Away
People Who Died

I could have gone home happy after the Bulldozers / Panties openers, but the whole night was a blast. On the way in I told my buddy that as much as I love the Angels & Fuselage closer I was really hoping for a People Who Died kind of night, and...

Great crowd and wonderful venue staff. I'm still a little tired today, but it was worth it.

Didn’t Wednesday cover Women Without Whiskey on Saturday night? I had forgotten until I listened to the “Mowing the Leaves” albulm today.

The members of Wednesday were very kind to my son, and I remember thinking that they looked really young, and the picture at the top of this article confirmed my memory.

I mean….I’m all about raising kids with good manners, but I’m pretty sure Saturday night was the first time anyone from a rock band has referred to me as “sir”!!!!

And yes they do cover WWW. IIRC that's what brought the band to Patterson's attention.

I can attest that Beaverdam had no drugs that night. I did all of them.
