Silent Dynamic Torture Super Static Fever
A band that played so loud their entire fan base went deaf and never spoke of them again. Formed in 1993 in the go-nowhere exurb of San Jose, California, Super Static Fever played only a handful of gigs in their brief two year existence, punishing spectators with a tinnitus-inducing wah-wah wall of Marshall-stacked distortion. Their sound was a mix of Melvins-esque sludge, Swervedriver’s melodic crunch, and latter-day Black Flag’s penchant for volume, as heard from the stock stereo of a hot-boxed 1985 Ford Econoline. Unfinished tapes from two ear-bleeding sessions are all that survived the ensuing 25 years since their indifferent break-up, mixed by the exacting Steve Albini as the band’s one condition for reissue. The package reeks of the ’90s computer-crippled D.I.Y. aesthetic, with VHS blur and opaque white screened on chipboard. A record that just barely does, and probably should not, exist.

It's quite good. Obvious influence of early Smashing Pumpkins is obvious.RolanK wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 12:58 amThis caught my attention. Never heard of. Will check out.cortez the killer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:31 pm

Only got around to hear a few of tunes yesterday, but yeah, early SP is a good reference. Spent a lot of time with Gish when it came out.cortez the killer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 3:38 pmIt's quite good. Obvious influence of early Smashing Pumpkins is obvious.

Gish is such a great record. Picked up a vinyl copy of it last February when I saw DBT in Portland, Maine.RolanK wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 12:58 amOnly got around to hear a few of tunes yesterday, but yeah, early SP is a good reference. Best album anyone from Uncle Tupelo has put out in the last 10 years, unless you count Brian Henneman as being part of Uncle Tupelo.

You must not be familiar with Love Is the King, Sukierae and New Multitudes.

I've really struggled to connect with anything Tweedy has done in a long time. It's all enjoyable to various degrees, but I thought Notes of Blue was a real out of nowhere excellent late career type record.cortez the killer wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 11:31 amYou must not be familiar with Love Is the King, Sukierae and New Multitudes.
Tried New Multitudes a few times and it just never quite grabbed me the way it did the rest of the board.
B-Rox South Broadway Athletic Club would rank ahead of anything Jay or Jeff has done in that time span for me (hence the Henneman tag).

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Been pretty busy with these:
This guy sounds a lot like Childers, but he's a really, really good songwriter. There's been a whole crop of young guys from Appalachia that people/Spotify keep tossing my way and most of them don't really stick but this is top notch.
This album is fucking great. I can't draw an obvious comp, but it's bouncing around between straight ahead rock, folkier singer songwriter stuff, a little country. The usual wheelhouse, but the songwriting is excellent.
