Coronavirus - COVID-19

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

It is finally starting to hit in the rural area where I live in southeastern KY. I think some people have finally started taking it a little more serious, but I'm afraid it might be too late. Our governor mandated wearing of masks for the next 30 days in all public places, so hopefully that will help curb the spread. A former student of mine is supposed to start his professional basketball career in Ireland this fall, but he told me today the team's general manager called and is hoping to get him over there 2 or 3 weeks earlier than planned because he's afraid Ireland will cut off any visitors from the United States.
i read that UK and Ireland is allowing US people in but there is a mandatory 14 day self-quarantine so he should leave when he can.

I clicked on this thread for the very first time today. Very interesting seeing time-stamped takes going back to late February and how information and perspectives have evolved.

Hope everyone is safe. I can't wait to be back in the middle of a sweaty, screaming throng swilling overpriced Budweiser.
I'm sleeping under strange, strange skies.

Traveling for professional reasons for the very first time since Homecoming. Sitting in a hotel room with nothing to do is pretty fucking boring.

Hotel doesn't have a porn channel? I used to have to go to Dutch Harbor AK to service accounts. The only decent place to stay was a 5 star hotel (with a mud parking lot) that was built for big game, big money fishermen. First time I stayed there I turned on the tv & was surprised to see hard core porn. It was supposed to be a pay per view thing but as with much in Alaska wasn't working right & it was free. I don't think the hotel ever caught on. I kid. Be careful out there.

It was quite difficult to get me on a plane pre-Corona, no fucking way I would do it now. Luckily I'm in Baltimore (has anyone EVER said that before?), so it was only a 4 hour drive.

We flew last month from Philly to Anchorage, AK. The trip out we connected thru Chicago and American Airlines filled pretty much every fucking seat on both flights. They even did beverage/snack service as usual (although no alcohol :x). The airports were all pretty much deserted, at least compared to normal times. I don't think I saw anyone without a mask, though there were plenty of losers who wore them down under their noses. The trip back was on Delta and they were much better (Anchorage to Atlanta is a long fucking flight!). Delta did not fill any of the middle seats and snacks/beverages were limited to pre-packed bags- a bottle of water and a couple of snacks for each traveler (again, no alcohol :x). Everyone was masked and nobody was causing any trouble. We brought disinfectant wipes and totally wiped down our individual seat area on all of our flights. We also bought face shields on Amazon and wore them in addition to our masks. After coming home last week I did get a precautionary covid test which was negative.

Glad to hear about the negative test! If you're up for it, I'd be interested in hearing about your thought process in deciding to get on those AA flights. Was it simply, "we're going and that's that" or did you weigh various factors in coming to a decision?

When we booked, I was unaware that AA was filling all seats. We made the decision to go and there are limited options when traveling to Anchorage. Plus we were 100% masked and there were three of us traveling so we knew we wouldn't have any rando's sitting between us.

Last night I was talking to my wife and said, "you know, I finally feel like I can kind of describe how I am feeling while we remain in quarantine." So I said:

ME:
I feel like I get up in the morning and don't really have anything to say.
Then I go to bed every night, pretty much feeling the same way.

WIFE:
Oh, yeah I can see that.

ME:
Maybe I'm just tired, or I guess just bored with myself.

WIFE:
I know...it's hard.

ME:
Maybe I just need a little help.

WIFE:
Yes. It might be good to talk to someone.

ME:
I mean, you can't start a fire without a spark.

WIFE:
Huh?

ME:
But this gun is for hire.

WIFE:
Not following....

ME:
Even if we're just Dancing in the Dark

WIFE:
I fucking hate you.

Looks like we are on our way to a full lock down over here again. 90 hospitalized with approx 20 in intensive care. X-mas will be strangely quiet this year.

Spent a week on the Kenai Peninsula then three days at a lodge northwest of Anchorage where my son worked as a fishing guide for the summer. Great time. Didn't make it down your way but if my son guides again this summer and we can swing another trip, then Juneau might be on the schedule.

Nice. Kenai is beautiful. Did you run into Karl Malone? Apparently he owns a place there -- he's an avid fisherman.

Hopefully next Summer things will be semi-back to normal. Most businesses survived, but man, there were a lot of hurting people. Tourism is our biggest biz here.

Things are getting tense in Washington state. We were doing fairly well all things considered but people became complacent & now we are posting record numbers of new cases. It's worse than the original wave. We're not quite on lockdown but it's close. Interesting & disconcerting is the roll back was announced after the election when it was obvious that things were clearly getting worse by election day. Lucky me lives about 2 miles from ground zero for King county (Seattle), an area called White Center. I'm not leaving the house much....

Not that we need it, but it's a pretty strong signal of how bad things are that even the freedom loving macho governors are announcing restrictions, some of them pretty extensive. There does not seem to be much to do other than to hunker down and hang in, which doesn't feel very satisfying as a strategy. I hope you are able to get all your essentials delivered. Stay safe my friend.
