I really loved him when I was like 7 years old. Don't know why/how that happened, but I would listen to his records on my parents' stereo when I was a kid
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

You do realize he left four hungry children and a crop in the field, right? Show some respect.
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

By the time you drop them I'll be gone
And you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life

RIP Kenny. A few of my favorites:

Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town): The saddest country song ever written (yes, even over He Stopped Loving Her)
Coward of the County: IMO the best song ever written about a gang rape turned mass murder
The Gambler: Did you know Willie was originally offered this song and turned it down?
Love each other, Motherfuckers!

I've never considered it that way, but you are absolutely correct.

It's hard to do a bad version of that song. It's that great.
Mel Tillis was such a badass.

Somehow this news got by me. Sad. Listened to a lot of Kenny Rogers as a little kid. It was his hey day and my sister loved him and had several of his records. Plus we loved the movies Six Pack and The Gambler. My dad couldn’t stand him because he looked a lot like a guy at his job that he had an odd sometimes buddies and sometimes couldn’t stand each other type relationship with.

I can never think about Kenny Rogers anymore without thinking about an odd and funny occurrence at Homecoming 2011(I think) on Night two (again I think). One of the guys in the crew was dressed up in a chicken outfit for reasons that were never really explained. About two songs in Cooley pointed toward the back of the room and said, “Who in the hell is this Kenny Rogers lookin motherfucker back there?” He and Patterson went back and forth about it and Patterson told a story about working at a restaurant in Watkinsville years ago and explained that Kenny’s then wife cane in a lot and never tipped. I won’t go into the rest of it but he said when they got divorced he had always sided with Kenny for that reason. The Kenny Rogers reference to the guy in the chicken outfit was lost on me. My wife reminded me of the Kenny Rogers’ Roasters restaurants. I just sort of smiled and pretended to get it. Not sure if Kenny was in any of the commercials dressed like that or what. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode though.

Anyway, RIP Kenny.
