Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Apparently this is his first album (and one of Dave's earliest producer credits) and it's been out of print for awhile, but got re-released last week. First track has a heavy "I Feel Alright" era Steve Earle feel to it.

I can relate to this. I will give it a few more spins but so far not up there with the previous one which I really liked with the full band treatment.Iowan wrote: I thought the new Moreland was a little disappointing. There are some really good songs, but it was more boring musically than the last couple to my ears.

New Terry Allen album "Just Like Moby Dick".
This thing is great. It'll definitely be one of my favorite albums this year.
Also spun John Hiatt's 'Slow Turning".

had it been pared down to a single LP, it would make a run for one of their greatest records.scotto wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Hey! Somewhere I’ve got a CD of this. Glad to know somebody is out there listening to it. I remember seeing him play these songs around here back around 2006ish. Some good memories there.Iowan wrote:

Not disagreeing, but curious what you'd jettison for a single LP. Assuming six a side, it's at least a double (or do I recall us already having this conceptual wrasslin' match?).tinnitus photography wrote:had it been pared down to a single LP, it would make a run for one of their greatest records.

I've done this to death over the years and usually end up cheating by including the non-album single Bankrobber as well.tinnitus photography wrote:not gonna bother with sequencing, just listing the best 12 songs:scotto wrote:Not disagreeing, but curious what you'd jettison for a single LP. Up in Heaven (Not Only Here)
Somebody Got Murdered---on any given day, my favorite song on the album
Police On My Back--a good cover and it introduced me to The Equals
One More Time/One More Dub
It's a bloated, flawed three-record set for sure, and would make for a cracking single LP or a very solid double. Reminds of the threads over on the Steve Hoffman forums, which devolve into a Beatles circle jerk more often than not: "Make the White Album a single LP" or "If Blonde on Blonde only had one disc," etc.
Even in those cases and with Sandinista, I still like the whole package, warts and all.
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Little bit of a Corb kick lately. He dropped a new one the other day that's nominally about a soldier about PTSD, but is really about Evan Felker (lead singer/main songwriter of Turnpike Troubadours) who basically went recluse in Idaho last summer following the blow up of that band. Good stuff. In the same vein as his last few releases, sonically.
