Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
think im reaching the point of hearing enough ellington from enough periods to know, very broadly, what he does. by no means stopping yet though, in particular id like to hear more of his earliest stuff. swing era and before
dude was clearly a major talent but sometimes his stuff could just be a hair too...conceptual? or something, and features less of the spontaneity and joy that i look for in jazz. his longer suites dont really deliver consistently like i want them to
although its very obvious he doesnt fit perfectly in jazz anyway, probably best to consider a lot of his stuff as something outside the genre
havent cooled on her one bit since last years obsession. i mostly lean on the last three albums now instead of the folkier first two, but whichever one i pick they have a remarkable ability to just feel right in a way that very few other artists can consistently do for me. i think for all the thinking ive done about why ive fallen for them so hard, its really just that simple.

Back and forth forth between The Unraveling and the new Futurebirds record. For the last two weeks.
They balance each other out quite nicely and both so good.

Didn't realize John Moreland had a new one out today, thanks Clams. I just finished the first listen, I like it. These snow days have me spending more time in front of the computer, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, found this write up, good info here.

Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
The Unraveling. Yet again.
After listening to this one a zillion times since last week, I have to say this album has jazzed me more than any other DBT release, and that's saying something.
Of course, it could just be the Homecoming excitement talking. But I don't think so. Not totally, anyway

I really hope that's what the next album sounds like. That song is a snoozer. Granted his last few albums have been about 40% snoozefest to my ears.Clams wrote:New track released by Isbell today.

This is pretty close to The Unraveling for me so far.
I thought the new Moreland was a little disappointing. There are some really good songs, but it was more boring musically than the last couple to my ears.

Thanks Clams. I need a nap after listening to that. But at this pint I’d be surprised if I liked something from him. Which is crazy.Clams wrote:New track released by Isbell today.
