There are 20 Tix to Saturday night on StubHub, none showing up at this point on Seat Geek, which I thought worked as an aggregator of such sites, including StubHub, but maybe has changed.

The 2nd year that I came, a good friend had Sat sell out on him and I searched and searched for a Sat ticket for him for months, finally found one on Vivid Seats for over $100, which all considering, he was "glad" to pay.

Point is, at a glance it appears that at present, scalping accounts for merely 1/25th of the sold out Sat tickets. Hate that even those 20 are being gouged, but for the most part its supply and demand apparently.

What's the next largest venue in Athens? Maybe do Thurs/Fri at the 40 Watt and Sat at the larger venue? Would be a logistical pain in the arse for the band and all involved I imagine, I can't even think of an example of an act doing 2 different venues in one town, so the logical progression would instead likely be Fri/Sat at a larger venue and the intimacy of the 40 Watt would be lost, not to mention the nostalgia, tradition, relationship there.

Unless there is a somewhat similarly romanticized next step larger venue in town (GA Theatre?) , I think Sat night will just always be the hot ticket for locals and out of towners alike and it is what it is.

I do feel lucky to have gotten Tix to all 3 nights and about the same for a room at the Dazed lol , but think the only change needed is the 3 day ticket option to return. I imagine something about that setup last year was a mess and as a result it didn't return this year, but I'd love it to become a regular option....with a Dazed room add-on option and move it all the weekend following UGA parents weekend please ;)

Well Emily and I are out this year and I for one am fine with a couple of newbies going in our place. Everyone who wants to should be able to go Homecoming at least once. Not like it’s ever gonna get to a level where any of the shows sell out within seconds; just park in front of your computer as soon as tickets go on sale and you’ll be fine. That’s what I’ll be doing for Homecoming 2021.

I know your suggestion is offered tongue in cheek but I think it's worth recognizing that the dread veteran v. newbie tension inherently lurks under the surface. IMHO both groups have legit claims on scarce tickets. Favoring one or the other risks undermining some of what makes HC great.
Absolutely it was tongue in cheek. I was making fun of 9 Bullets Privilege.
I've been a fan since '98 or so (whenever the "Nine Bullets" 45 came out), but haven't been near as active a rock show goer as many more recent fans, as evidenced by the fact that this will be my first Homecoming. No, I don't claim any entitlement and certainly don't begrudge the band their rabid and growing fanbase. If anything, the fact that Homecoming has become what it is just underscores why they're the world's greatest rock and roll band with the world's greatest fans.

There is nothing wrong with jokes, Scotto’s post was funny IMHO, but the single most important thing in this community is that there is no “seniority”, all are welcome and all should attend Homecoming at least once and that includes long time fans who have never been as well as those who discovered the band last Tuesday. This is aimed at no one by the way just consider it a “mission statement “ of sorts.

On the one hand, yes, absolutely

On the other, there are absolutely some people who, if they were shut out of tickets, would either be added to a guest list by the band or some other means. Sorry, I don’t buy the “no seniority” thing.
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Do people end up on the guest list from time to time? Yes. Does it happen because they got shut out of tickets, especially at HC? Sorry, but it doesn’t.

I think the truth is is in the middle: It hasn't happened (to my knowledge anyway) because it hasn't come up; if people do start getting shut out at "the ticket window" I think it might well happen but there are no guarantees and nobody's not going to try to buy tix because they assume they'll magically be admitted. The point is that there is no seniority or favoritism with respect to the ability to purchase tickets. Besides, there will never be a world in which personal relationships don't count for anything so I don't see the point in measuring the reality here against a standard or benchmark that doesn't exist. By real world standards, our playing field is as level as it gets and more level than most.

If we push the conversation further, it's not at all clear that fairness means absolute equality in all circumstances If, say, a long time fan well known to board members and band members and friends w/ many of them was seriously ill enough to assume s/he couldn't go to HC 3 months later but at the last minute was able to go, does anybody think it would be wrong for that person to gain access, whether through magically appearing sold out tickets or by being added to the guest list? Would it be wrong for that person to have special accommodations as far as seating and related matters go? When against all odds Ben (unclefrank23) was able to make his last homecoming does anyone think that the special attention he received was inappropriate in any way?

I think it’s fine that people have special accommodations. There are certainly people here and elsewhere who have connections/relationships with the band, and there is nothing wrong with the band helping those people out should the need arise.

I just don’t want people pretending that doesn’t exist

I don’t know you but it seems like the band brings you no joy. Every post I see from you is a complaint of some sort. The band never plays in your backyard so you can’t go to shows, you can’t go to Homecoming because the dates aren’t convenient for you, the setlists are too static for you (even though you rarely go to shows), the album is taking too long to come out, some fans get special privileges, etc.

If I had as many complaints about a band & its operation I would find another band.

I think some of these are fair. Some aren’t, including the last one, which I just very clearly posted was not a problem.

Perhaps not. But you've posted several times about certain fans in some sort of imagined inner circle in what seems like a disparagingly manner. So it seems, to an outsider on an internet message board, that you have a problem with it.

beantownbubba wrote:The issue is not whether people will come to the shows, nor is it whether the band can sell out the 3 shows. The issue is really the same as above, i.e. can homecoming retain its special flavor if not everybody who wants to go can go and if the difficulty in obtaining tickets starts to undermine the positive nature of the event.
If the difficulty obtaining tickets undermines anything, it's only for the people who don't get tickets. We can bitch on the internet in November but nobody in the 40 Watt in February is going to be lamenting anything. If anything, the people who get in the door will be even more excited.

I only have Thursday tickets because I didn't anticipate the fast sellout this year. If I can find Fri/Sat, great, if not, lesson learned.

Also, we are a LONG way from DBT needing to address any supply/demand/price issues. Maybe it's changing, but it's never been all that difficult to find a spare ticket for any of the nights as we get closer to the date, either on this site or at the venue.

I’m in for all 3 shows. I am excited to see The Dexateens at the 40 Watt and Jerry Joseph anywhere.

Patterson said on Facebook that as long as DBT and the 40 Watt Club both exist, Homecoming will be there.

I’ve been put on the DBT guest list once due to being shut out. It was when DBT played the Newport Folk Festival. As soon as DBT was announced, I went to the site to buy a ticket. The whole weekend was already sold out. I tried up until that weekend to find a ticket at or slightly above face without success. I dislike the fact that NFF sells out before announcing any artists on the bill. I have had this argument with multiple friends and neither side will budge. In any case, I don’t make a habit of asking to be on the guest list.
