Brooklyn Bowl Six Nights of Setlists June 2019

Post by LagoonField »

I suspect someone else may already start this, but maybe one thread for Six Nights of Set lists from Brooklyn Bowl for us Heathen Sisterhood and Brethren living vicariously for the next week. Thanks in advance to the Heathens in attendance who post the set lists (and reviews)!

And should there be a stream, this would be a good place to make that known. I can dream.

6/20/19 Brooklyn Bowl

A Ghost 2 Most
Puttin' People on the Moon
Shit Shots Count
Heathens
Women Without Whiskey
Pauline Hawkins
Filthy & Fried
The Righteous Path
Kinky Hypocrite
Ronnie and Neil
72
Birmingham
Surrender Under Protest
Thoughts and Prayers
Ramon Casiano
Why Henry Drinks
Panties in Your Purse
Tails Facing Up
Slow Ride Arguement
Babies in Cages
Where the Devil Don't Stay
Grand Canyon.

Tight and intense. Love the way Babies in Cages has evolved. Where most bands would lay out and extend, DBT in their economical way have created a dark, jammy piece that leaves you exhausted by the end
Always go to the show

Only one acoustic guitar on one song by Patterson (Thoughts and Prayers), otherwise, a ripping electric guitar set with very little work for the stage crew

There were some sound issues out of the gate and I think it took a little while for the Truckers to find their groove - but find it they did, from Ronnie & Neil/72/Birmingham on thru the end of the set. The run of Henry/Panties/Tails was especially sweet. I thought Craig Finn and his band were underwhelming (the sax player was great though). Was hoping to hear God in Chicago but he didn't play it. Great to see so many friends but overall have to say the attendance was disappointing - the room was barely half full. Did the 120 mile drive up from Philly and picked up Phungi, Vincent and Emandrisdad along the way. It took over 4 hours to get to Brooklyn due to a biblical monsoon that actually followed us up the NJ Turnpike. Didn't get back until after 2am but worth it as always. Will be back for more next weekend!

I look at that set list and my first thought is that the band is having the best time of anybody in the house :)

Doesn't that always make for the best shows?

I'm still jealous, but damned if I'm not happy for all my friends there from the band on down.

So night two was the barn burner. Last night was for the converted faithful. Eclectic and all over the place. Fuck- we got SDZ, Wednesday and One of These Days on the same night. G.G. Allin and The Deeper In (“wrote this about a story in Wisconsin so y’all don’t think we’re only fucked up in Alabama”). Drag the Lake redux (because I fucked it up last night). Really 3 classic nights. Can’t wait for next weekend

I was also impressed by my new friend Lelou. A lovely Parisian young lady on a solo vacation in NY. Came out to see a band she knew almost nothing about except for a song on a playlist that she loved (Man I Shot). She walked away saying it was the best show she had ever seen. She was also quite surprised when she asked me at the one hour mark if the show was ending and I told her we had at least another hour to go

Well, Dr Jon, he's there in Brooklyn
With his bowling shoes and bowling ball
Speaking to some French girl
Who says she doesn't know DBT well
And I would send an email
To find out if he got Lelou's deets
But the password has been forgotten
And the mailbox is locked
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

Here's the original lyrics:

Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
Speaking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

I assume Hartford and Beverly belong in this thread as well.

For now let me say that was something new and different. The first 1/2 to 2/3 was dazzling but not quite great, the second part was, well, you know, DBT being DBT and the last little bit fell a little bit short Yes, I know that needs further explanation which I'll be happy to provide when I have the set list. Frankly I'm not totally sure what "dazzling but not quite great" actually means but it feels right.

In the meantime, can we talk about Cooley''s haircut, which looked to me like he went to a stylist instead of a barber :) and the new design on the bass drum? I don't know what that design is but feel like i should.

Highlights included Sands of Iwo Jima, Wednesday, Birmingham, One of These Days and Marry Me.

No surprise to anyone, seated venues are not the best environment for the rock show.

Thanks to Hanging Hills for doing their customary great job w/ their pre-game hosting.
