Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
the band always swore this was their worst gig ever (to most Heads Boreal Ridge 85 gets that dishonor).
You be the judge

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
Jerry clearly digging Mick Taylor sitting in! Love watching Mick take a few minutes of tutoring from Jerry on how the song goes, and then he lets it rip on what is surely one of the nastiest GD songs
Absolutely textbook example of Jerry's haircut my friends and I called "the Ben Franklin"
Jerry's voice pretty shot with this being the last of an 8-night run at MSG (and last night of a 16-show fall tour). This night was The Rainforest Benefit with a plethora of guests (Taylor, Bruce Hornsby, Suzanne Vega, Hall & Oates, Jack Casady, Olatunji). IIRC our very own Sacto Chris was there

24 years ago today
From the land of the midnight sun
Where the ice blue roses grow
Along those roads of gold and silver snow
Howlin' wide or moaning low
So many roads I know
So many roads to ease my soul

I was at the Quicksilver, Mountain, Delaney and Bonnie, Dead (2 shows and) Mayall. Damn I saw some shit. FWIW—B.B and Taj blew Mayall off the stage
Always go to the show

Classic! I have that entire Fillmore West 1969 box (2/27, 2/28, 3/1, 3/2) that came out years back. Absolutely essential Dead! Of course these were the shows that comprise Live DeadJonicont wrote:Just picked this up. Came out yesterday. Going to give it a spinwhatwouldcooleydo? wrote:

Deadhead/Danfan Conversion Chart
Hey kids! Looking to make the transition from deadhead to danfan but don't know where to begin? Here's how it goes:
Hey kids! Looking to make the transition from deadhead to danfan but don't know where to begin? Here's how it goes:
Deadhead ---> Deadfan/Danhead ---> Danfan
tiedye t-shirt ---> "reality sucks" t-shirt ---> steely dan t-shirt
sense of oneness ---> sense of despair ---> sense of entitlement
sandals ---> Dr Maartens ---> Bad Sneakers
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

this is sweet in so many ways! Also, after Letterman thanks them, they play As Tears Go By (audio only), which is a very nice bonus
and, yes, I do realize that I'm just posting these for myself

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
cross-posted from the Robert Hunter thread:
Hunter's letter to Jerry a year after Garcia died: a long and wonderful piece of writing
So much from the letter stands out but this is especially on target:
You knew one decent song was worth a dozen cobbled together pieces of shit, saved only by arrangement. I guess we have a few of those too, but the percentage is respect ably low. Pop songs come and go, blossom and wither, but we scored a piece of Americana, my friend. Sooner or later, they'll notice what we did doesn't die the way we do. I've always believed that and so did you.
