macca in 2018 so dont expect wall to wall classics or much in the vocal department at all, but he can still write a hell of a song. i was a bit apprehensive about his play towards a more modern pop aesthetic based on interviews but i think the songs that went furthest down that road ended up the strongest

Again. This is very likely my AotY. Very hard to see anything beating it out. I think it stands up to A Man Under the Influence as Alejandro's best work. Simply stunning.

Had this on earlier this morning. You certainly have to be in the right mood and it requires your undivided attention.jr29 wrote:I'm digging too. Cherry Blossom Rain is stuck in my head and ain't leaving anytime soon.Tequila Cowboy wrote:

The Mats influence is all over it. I mean, I guess I knew that, but I like hearing the real version a lot.Jonicont wrote:So punk and it rocksIowan wrote:

Also, I think the OG version of Buttholeville makes a more natural transition for the "State Trooper" tag than the greased up version we've come to know and love.

Now that I can hear the instrumentation better I hear an influence I hadn't thought of before. Early Soul Asylum. Take a listen to the records Say What You Will... Everything Can Happen or Hang Time and you'll hear it. Pretty awesome. Like this great, lost indie treasure.Iowan wrote:The Mats influence is all over it. On a much smaller scale, it's somewhat similar to the Suitcase/Briefcase releases Pollard/Guided By Voices have done. Love hearing some of these early versions of what was fleshed out down the road.Tequila Cowboy wrote:Now that I can hear the instrumentation better I hear an influence I hadn't thought of before. Cheesy, sloppy, hilarious, creepy, majestic, and any other adjectives you can probably throw in between. Loved this when I was 15. Still love it in my mid-40's.Zip City wrote:The Song Remains the Same is on TV right now

It took 13 minutes for them to play a note, and I thought I was having a bad reaction to medication or something (and I'm not on medication)211poundsofpork wrote:Cheesy, sloppy, hilarious, creepy, majestic, and any other adjectives you can probably throw in between.
