Love that early Mutabaruka. Early '80s reggae was every bit as creative and crucial as the punk/new wave scene going on.John A Arkansawyer wrote:Good idea! I pulled this one along with the Mutabaruka. Now playing.

I had somehow never noticed it before, but Mutabaruka and LKJ have a very similar cadence to their voices.scotto wrote:Love that early Mutabaruka. I"m not one hundred percent certain, but I think they played Fayetteville twice in sometime within, say, two years of 1981. There was the one bar called The Gazebo not near Dickson Street (where everything was) which had mostly non-memorable music but occasionally booked reggae bands. If it was late '82 or later, I'd bet money I wrote a review about it. I wish I had all that stuff in softcopy. What an excellent little track that is!scotto wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I'm sure they did--Blue Riddim was from Kansas City and played all over the midwest and I know made it to Arkansas quite a bit. I grew up in Siloam Springs, just a half hour west and spent a lot of time in Fayetteville. Haven't thought about The Gazebo in ages, it was on Business 71 in an old Gibson's or K-Mart or something. Can't remember who all I saw there, but you're right: mostly meh bar bands.John A Arkansawyer wrote:I"m not one hundred percent certain, but I think they played Fayetteville twice in sometime within, say, two years of 1981. Ah! Then you got to hear my friends Local Hero. I always loved their shows. Gotta see them again soon And yeah, I think the only reason I ever went to The Gazebo was reggae bands. I thought it was in a smaller building than a Gibson's (talk about living in the past! I used to buy seven cent hot dogs at the Gibson's near the folks's house back in Oklahoma) that was kind of a standalone, but I could be wrong. It's been a long time and I didn't like the place.scotto wrote:I'm sure they did--Blue Riddim was from Kansas City and played all over the midwest and I know made it to Arkansas quite a bit. I never did understand why more people didn't commute from Siloam. It's a pretty little city, or was. God knows that whole corner of the state is full of shitshows where you'd least expect them now. My cousin and her family live there. She or her husband--or maybe both of them. Did they meet in school? I'm getting very old--do something technical/nutritional for Allen Canning. I'm not quite sure what.

The kid's mom and I got married at the Swain church/community building/lodge. My mom's folks are all from around there, in Newtown County, and the kid's mom's folks are from around Clarksville. Our families had never met before and I'd dreaded it. I knew it was only a matter of time on their hands for them to discover exactly how we were third cousins twice removed by marriage and the law, in that order. And they did. Luckily, I'm adopted.scotto wrote:Dude, we're probably second cousins or I'm your uncle in law or some shit.John A Arkansawyer wrote:...I'm not quite sure what.

If you haven't seen them the Troubadours are great, just wish they'd come over here more often. I'd go and see the Bottle Rockets myself as they're on my bucket list (and they never come over here either)Jonicont wrote:Well, I ain't Iowan. But I'd go with the Troubs. B Rox will be in a little club, Troubadours in a bigger club. I've seen the B Rox a few times and would obviously love to see them again, haven't seen the Troubadours yet. Neither of them come thru here very often and I'd like to see them both, but that's not going to be possible. Advice?

If you've never seen the Troubadours I'd recommend going with that show.
The Bottle Rockets are probably my favorite band though. You can't go wrong.

Started it this morning...
...finishing it tonight.
ETA: Look at all the interesting live versions of this on YouTube linked from this blog I can't read!
Re-ETA: Oh good lord! I can't understand this, either. It would probably spoil it if I could. Except her holding that little lemon drink just so, while talking about a man. That, I understood. I swear, I'm done with this rabbit hole.

That might be next. I'm overdue for a Dexafix. But right now it's this:
You see my point. She's kind of interesting, actually.
But this is what brought my milkshake to that yard, to meet a mixaphor I don't particularly like:
You'll note that last song is "Flora On My Mind". Possibly a slight joke on Frida Kahlo's "Diego On My MInd"; certainly released while she was not, during a two-year bid at FCI Terminal Island. Dystopia is nothing new, you know.

Same here. Really liked the "Leave It Alone" single when it came out. Snuck a couple listenings in last week and really dig it.RolanK wrote:Had a couple of listens to this over the weekend. I like.cortez the killer wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I feel there is more geetars on here than on any of Jasons couple of recent albums. Not that that is the most important feature of the music, but interesting to note that he (or the produces) seems to allow himself some more freedom here than on his own stuff.cortez the killer wrote:Same here.
