Summer 2018 Wheels of Soul Tour Setlists
Hey Heathens:
I always feel better in the morning, when the Truckers are on Tour. I look forward to checking 3DD for the setlist from the night before and maybe hearing a funny story from a Heathen or two at the show.
We have no plans to see any of the Summer tour or any of the one offs, but I am looking forward to daily updates. So thanks in advance for the set list postings.
We saw the Marcus King Band recently at Rooster Walk in Virginia and have seen Tedeschi Trucks on a number of occasions at LOCKN. Both bands are great.
So I hope everyone is having a fun start to the Summer and are going to catch a couple of shows soon.
ROCK ON!!
Tim

Re: Summer 2018 Wheels of Soul Tour Setlists
Just realized there's a show tommorow night. I asked the Mrs to get tickets about a month ago but I guess she misunderstood me. So I guess well head to the stadium and see if we're going to get our daily afternoon and evening thunder showers. If it ain't coming down just before DBT goes on, then we're in.
and that pussy Alec Baldwin blew that girl away, and speaking of pussy Steve got it all!

I had asked the security gaurd if he could hand my Duke, Jacksonville brown ale to that guitar player. He laughed and said no. I assked him if I could shake it at him so he'd know it was for him, he laughed again
and looked away, so I shook it at Patterson and went back to my seat. Then Ronnie and Neil. Great night yalll. Short but sweet aynd we ran into bnzz and dome other people that I dony know there name.

Patterson and David Hood played a song with TTB band that was a Muscle Shoals cover, not sure what it was. Everybody was the highlite of the whole concert to me. TTB and Marcus King were great too.
First time seeing DBT in two years. Need an indoor theatre show soon. Missed them at the Lyric last year in Birmingham.
Tuscaloosa Amp is a nice place fwiw. We had dinner with some old friends at a renovated train station nearby. It was a club back in the day, much nicer now.

Looks like they're getting about an hour or so? Cool! I figured they wouldn't get more than 45 mins. Any more sit ins/ guest slots to report? Would love to see Cooley rip with Trucks.

What's the general reaction of the TTB fans to the DBT songs, particularly the more political/current events ones?

I like "Guns of Umpquaa" as much as any fan. I think it's a pretty good (but not best in class) opener for a full band show. I don't think it's a good opener when the band is not performing a full set. The reaction to it was not in any way negative but it did not seem to capture the audience's attention. Patterson being Patterson, I'm sure he has his reasons and I'd be really interested in hearing them but until then I'll just say that the crowd seemed a little confused about what they were getting and I sensed some relief when the electric guitars came out for "Ramon".
"Ramon" and "Lookout" were fine, but it was with "Shit Shots" that the mysterious alchemy occurred, when the band went from being really good to being, well, DBT. The band caught fire, the crowd snapped to a higher degree of attention, the crowd responses grew louder & more enthusiastic and it was an "always go to the show" experience from that point on.
The 1-2 punch of "21st Century" and "Uncle Frank" was incredibly powerful and made both songs that much better. Great stuff and very meaningful. Jay's solo during "Uncle Frank" was particularly noteworthy in that it was a different approach from what I would call his "usual." "Darkened Flags" has always been a bit of a mystery to me - it "feels" like it ought to be a real barn burner and concert favorite yet it doesn't seem to quite get there. Until last nite. Best version I've heard and a fine finish. Matt had his dancing shoes on and his smile working and as always it was a pleasure to watch him on stage. New haircut too, I think (?). I mention him here because "Surrender Under Protest" and especially the "4 across" singers was another hilite. The band is traveling w/ 5 horn players. I don't know how these things are done but it would be very cool if 2 or 3 of them could be persuaded to play on "Surrender." I'm sure Jay could come up w/ some nice charts and I think that would blow any room away.
I had heard 2 of the new ones in acoustic versions and "Babies" not at all and I thought all 3 sounded great and went over well. "Slow Ride" seems to be fully polished, "21st Century" is almost there (it's more my sense that it seems the kind of song the band will continue to tinker w/ than that it's not a finished product now) and on first hearing "Babies" sounded great and perhaps poised to gain a wider audience.
The band seemed very conscious of its limited time so there was very little banter/commentary from Patterson and I don't think Cooley said a word other than "thank you" all night. That's not a complaint, they packed as much music as they could into their slot and that was definitely the right choice.
To answer zip's question (and my own pre-show concerns), it was not a DBT crowd in the sense that most seemed to be there to hear guitar virtuosity and fireworks. Opener Marcus King was very well received by the early arrivals, which was well deserved but my point is that DBT was the "outlier" of the 3 bands. But the sound was excellent and the vocals easy to hear even for new listeners and it seemed to me that DBT captured the crowd's attention. At the finish they got "only" a partial standing O but the enthusiasm for each song grew steadily and I thought the reaction was very positive. My guess is that the band made at least a few fans. Speaking of the crowd, the mystery of my being able to get a great seat at a [relatively] low price a week before the show became clear when I got to the venue: The portion of the stands beyond the roof (still called the lawn but covered in seats) was totally empty/closed. The larger portion under the roof was just about full but clearly the show sold short of expectations.
As far as I knew, none of the local "usual suspects" were planning to attend so I was curious if there would be any kind of DBT fan presence at the show and I was pleasantly surprised. The numbers weren't overwhelming or anything, but right around my seat I saw a couple of people singing along w/ most of the songs and a number recognizing almost all the songs (except the new ones) fans and I heard "DBT," "What it Means," and "Cooley" shouts from the crowd multiple times. I saw one other fan in a DBT t shirt.

I think the clear problem is Tedeschi Truck Band is WAY overpriced. Now, I get they have a HUGE band with many talented musicians. I also get they're touring with other bands. But $100 (after fees) for a pavilion ticket is, how do I say this, ridiculous...and I LOVE TTB.beantownbubba wrote: The larger portion under the roof was just about full but clearly the show sold short of expectations.
I've found the best way to approach TTB is to either buy a face value lawn (if you're into that kind of thing) or do what you did by waiting out and buying cheap on Stub Hub/Craigslist.

Agree. The unusual thing here is that I bought my ticket direct (i.e. from ticketmaster after clicking through from the DBT website) and as an extra added bonus there were no fees (!)Zip Up to Michigan wrote:I think the clear problem is Tedeschi Truck Band is WAY overpriced. Re: Summer 2018 Wheels of Soul Tour Setlists
There are a lot of good tickets left for Friday's show in Raleigh. I checked the Ticketmaster site and it doesn't look like very many tickets have been sold for any of the sections under the pavilion, other than the 3 closest to the stage. No idea about the lawn as there's no way to check.
We decided to skip the Raleigh show and just stay down in Myrtle Beach for a few days after the DBT show tomorrow. Otherwise I probably would have ended up trying to get cheap tickets for the Raleigh show.

Tuscaloosa was $20 although you could pay more if you wanted. May be a market issue. Most major touring act concerts are over $100, no? TTD + DBT + MK is a good value, IMHO.Zip Up to Michigan wrote:I think the clear problem is Tedeschi Truck Band is WAY overpriced. Now, I get they have a HUGE band with many talented musicians. It seems they are alternating the encore slot.
Fri and Sun NC shows got MKB... DBT sat in at Wolf Trap and in Atlanta.

I assume the lineup has been MKB --> DBT --> TTB. Have the bands been going on at a pretty consistent time (and if so, anyone know what time, especially the Truckers)?
