Again. One of these tunes popped up in my Spotify "Discover Weekly" list, and this is really tickling the sweet spot. Heavy Mats influence, really catchy, a little country to it. Right in the 3DD wheel house.Iowan wrote:

It's been a long time since I've seen, let alone listened to, The Dirty Truckers. Back in the bays of 9B, I remember threemilelake being a fan. I think he turned me onto Loose in the Joints.

Doing a little research it looks like they're from up in your neck of the woods.cortez the killer wrote:It's been a long time since I've seen, let alone listened to, The Dirty Truckers. Back in the bays of 9B, I remember threemilelake being a fan. I think he turned me onto Loose in the Joints.
I could definitely see 3milelake digging these guys. Clams and BK would love it.

If you're familiar w/ the pub rock genre then it's a perfect description of these guys and if you like the genre you'll like them. If you're not familiar, "pub rock" refers to a kind of "back to basics" movement out of England in the early 70's. Other well known practitioners were Brinsley Swartz (highly recommended as well, probably my faves) and Nick Lowe before he was Nick Lowe. Not anything like punk but similar in its reaction to overblown rock of both the prog rock and interminable solos variety. Highly influenced by "first generation" rock like Chuck Berry, Elvis, Hank the First and the horn-influenced intersection of rock and R&B. Short generally catchy songs w/ deep hooks and few solos. Literally music played in the pubs for people who wanted to either dance or just drink w/ music in the background. Rockpile is not pub rock in either time or sound but the pub rock influence is very clear once you know what to listen for.Shakespeare wrote:never heard of this band but the pub rock tag has me intrigued. tell me more
This is really good music that is fun to listen to but makes no pretense of aiming for "art" and I don't think anybody would make claims in that direction. Which is not to say it's lightweight. It's well crafted, well performed and damn good.

picked up the new box set because i never bought oh my gawd or telepathic surgery in my peak fan days, and the added outtakes and stuff i also didnt have made it more than worth $23. really skimpy on the note side of things though. gives the impression of a label mandated thing or pure contract fulfillment but i just read some lengthy interviews with wayne about it so maybe not? the other two retrospective things they put out this year were similar on that front, kinda weird since waynes kinda made a career out of not ever shutting up. at any rate, the music is the selling point and im glad to have it all now
i already knew this album pretty well and its not great but has some gems and its taking me back pretty well anyway. hearing it now as opposed to when i was in high school its more obvious how derivative a lot of it is, but still a fun listen
always really loved the line "when youre touching me i feel great / when im touching you hallucinate"

Dwight Yoakam's Greater Bakersfield show on Sirius XM. Dwight's guest on the show this week is the great Chris Hillman. Fantastic stuff.
