Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
Honestly, I'm as mad at the Democrats as the Republicans. The fact that the Government is shut down is stupid. R's had 6 months to get in front of this and they failed. It is basic governance, and they've fundamentally failed.
OTOH - The Democrats had 6 months to get in front to the messaging. It's a shit show with each side blaming the other. Didn't every goddamn Democrat have a envelope that said 'Open In Case Of Shutdown" (nope). Now you're fighting for fucking hashtags? Seriously? How the D's can't capitalize on this is beyond me. Oh wait....it isn't beyond me....this is the only Democratic Party I've ever known.

But seriously, does anybody really care about a government shutdown? I haven't heard anybody talking about it other than as a political event. I think the government would have to be shut down for weeks before anyone would really notice.

Meanwhile, Pence gave an outrageously political speech to the troops. I find that stuff to be totally disgusting and simply calling it "yet another violation of norms" doesn't quite capture it.

So if virtually (maybe literally) the entire Republican leadership is complicit in the Russia scandal (which is looking more and more likely), how does that play out?
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.
Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
It doesn't, since they are self-governing. Only a massive Democrat win in 2018 moves the needleSmitty wrote:So if virtually (maybe literally) the entire Republican leadership is complicit in the Russia scandal (which is looking more and more likely), how does that play out?

Last weeks This American Life had a good piece on how lost and tone deaf and protectionist the party is.beantownbubba wrote:No shit. Keep saying it, maybe it will sink in before it's too late.tinnitus photography wrote:the democratic party needs to clean house of its leadership.

Idiots

One has to wonder how much of this shit one can take. I know that not much matters anymore, but something has to matter right? Something...anything?
Hoping, while severely compromising our Intelligence both at home and abroad, this backfires. I think the FISA warrant on Carter Page was renewed like five times.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
I read the memo. Snore. A LOT of stuff is conveniently left out. This will do nothing but feed the trolls and tin-foil hat set. What a shame.
It will also be interesting to see Trump answer (or not) the question, "So...hang on...you appointed a dude as your Foreign Policy Advisor who had been under FISA survilance for 2+ years?"
At this point, I just wonder what our collective threshold is for National Embarrassment.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
I read it too and the selective amnesia over the ongoing investigation of Carter Page dating back to warrants issued in 2013 is astounding. Still this is a test. If this leads to a DOJ bloodletting and it goes unchallenged we're done. Toast. Alternatively it could lead to the end of this administration. I have no sense which way it will go.pearlbeer wrote:I read the memo. Snore. A LOT of stuff is conveniently left out. This will do nothing but feed the trolls and tin-foil hat set. What a shame.
