It was certainly a lot of fun. The performance was great , the songs were Ok and Little Steven's singing was so so but was what I expected. Glad I saw it probably wouldn't go again.

Tonight - Alice Cooper supported by The Tubes (and the Mission but they are rubbish)

So how was it? The show clashed with the Little Steven show in Birmingham (and was in a Pizza restaurant) otherwise I would have checked them out.

Excellent show. Piano trio obviously means Howe Gelb on Piano + a trio (drums, upright and a dude alternating guitar and flugelhorn). It was a sit-down show in the smaller room of the city's concert hall which suited the music. Set list mostly focus on his "Future Standards" stuff, but also a few older Giant Sand songs for the fans. The band was great, especially the guitar player (J.B. Meijers). Heavily influenced by Marc Ribot I would say.

I recently got to (unexpectedly) see a great show for free. Here's the story:
For months I knew that the John McLaughlin/Jimmy Herring tour was coming to the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on November 4. I had never seen McLaughlin and had heard this was to be his last tour of North America. I am a longtime fan of Herring and have seen him over 50 times (mostly but not exclusively as part of Widespread Panic). November 4 is my brother's birthday and I didn't buy tickets in case there was some family thing for that occasion. There was no such thing to attend so I chose to buy an Orchestra ticket on StubHub. I had used StubHub before without any problems.
I went to get my ticket scanned and it wouldn't scan. I got nervous. They sent me to the box office to sort it out. The ticket had already been scanned (it was a print-at-home). I was quite bummed about the prospect of missing the show. Then a guy at the box office said "wait over there" and then came back to me with a balcony ticket that he said was from the artist. He gave it to me for free. I called StubHub the next day and explained what happened. They were very helpful and issued me a refund.
If this show comes near you, I recommend checking it out. It was a wonderful night of music.
