Not sure why, but for some reason I always thought Covington was in east TN. Guess I’ve only been west of Nashville 5 or so times in my life, always wanted to catch a show in Memphis though.Beaverdam wrote:I'm in Covington (about an hour north of Memphis), so let me know if you come to a show my way!Sterling Bigmouth wrote:Saw her at Bonnaroo a couple months ago, she’s 100% worth seeing. I'd really like to see Margo Price!

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
The (English) Beat feat. Dave Wakeling, Whelans, Dublin 7th Sept. 2017
Having seen Ranking Roger’s version of The Beat back in May, next up was the (now residential – for the last 25 years?) Californian resident Dave Wakeling’s The (English) Beat – both men were the lead singers in The Beat, but went their separate ways in the early 80s and now tour with each having a version of the Beat. Dave Wakeling seemingly having the rights to the name The English Beat and Ranking Roger having the rights to the name The Beat.
Whelans is a small music venue in Dublin (main room holds just say, 300 to 400), which means that for the first time in ages I will be seeing a band which has no barrier between them and the stage. In fact the stage is only about 18” higher than the floor holding the crowd, so at various points in the gig different people got up on the stage to dance along with the band! The bouncers were suspicious, but the band members told the bouncers that it was ok, and so some fans were dancing away with the band on the small stage. It was a big enough band too – eight member band.
Anyway, to the music, the band were great, brilliant, and having a fun time playing all the old greats. They opened with the nice mid-tempo reggae number “Rough Rider”, then called out that then next one was their brilliant version of “Tears of a Clown” and the gig was off and running, with the crowd dancing, skanking, whatever you’re having yourself! They played “Hands off she’s mine”, “Too nice to talk to”, “Save it for later” and the excellent “Best Friend”. Ranking Roger’s fill in was great, playing and singing all the parts required, whilst Dave Wakeling himself was having a whale of a time. I noticed that whilst Dave is a lefty guitar players the strings are not re-strung, so all his chords are played upside down (unusual enough). The band were great, posing mid song, mid verse for selfies with whoever wanted a picture at the front, and as I said, they didn’t even mind when people got up on stage and danced along.
A great band, great songs, great music, and a great dance along audience. A fantastic night (one hour 45 minutes) of a Punky/Reggae/Ska party!! Highly recommended if they come along to where you live.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
I caught Hard Working Americans opening for Tedeschi Trucks this weekend at the ACL Moody Theater in Austin. Great show. Derek Trucks played the absolute best guitar I've ever witnessed live. He is unbelievable. He played the same SG the entire night, plugged straight into the amp. No effects, no pedals. Straight up. It was unreal.
Love each other, Motherfuckers!
