Any recommendations for places to stay that are convenient for the venue and for sightseeing?

You're going to these shows? Now you've made my NOLA v. DC decision even harder. Thanks a lot.dogstar wrote:Any recommendations for places to stay that are convenient for the venue and for sightseeing?
I always liked the JW Marriott near the White House but that's when other people were paying so I'm not sure it's in the typical tourist budget. I also just realized that I have no idea where it is in relation to the venue. Never mind.
All opinions and commentary in my posts are solely my own and are made in my personal capacity.

Also keep in mind that there will be a march for science on the 22nd. Could be significant
Always go to the show

So with 4/22 being Record Store Day and DBT having a release, what are the odds that one of our fine local record shops in D.C. gets an in-store?
(Also Vic Chesnutt's masterpiece West of Rome is getting its first vinyl pressing!)

^^Ha, I saw that Vic re-issue and thought of you.
We are in for these as well. Can anybody recommend good DC record stores to support on RSD?

not sure how they usually handle record store day but red onion is my favorite shop in the city (cd cellar is my favorite shop period, but youd have to take the metro into VA).
som is a close second (especially if you want international stuff). both it and red onion are walkable from 930

SO looking forward to these shows. Less than a month. If anyone is up for some non-DBT sight-seeing, I'm cool with that, too.

Man, if my rep is that I love Vic Chesnutt, I'm doing something right in life. But really, DBT in-store, right? Right?!uncle rickey wrote:^^Ha, I saw that Vic re-issue and thought of you.

Totally agree with Clams, HGM is the real deal, love it. I continue to be amazed at the high quality bands that always seem to open for DBT. They definitely give you a lot of bang for the buck.

Pregame at my place on Saturday from 1-4pm (unless DBT announces an in-store for RSD, in which case the pregame is cancelled). PM me if you need the address!
I keep it all together for the sake of the kids.

Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.

Nope, that was a much later record (Dark Developments, 2008). West of Rome was Vic's second album, when Stipe was producing. Still Athens as fuck.blackwll wrote:I think Elf Power was the band with Vic on that one

Any veterans of RSD have a plan?
We know they will play a store. There is more than one near the venue.
When do you think we will know? How does the info get out? What time would the in store likely happen?
I have to imagine Pat will tell us at some point in the show Friday night. Despite being less than 20 miles away I am thinking about grabbing a hotel Friday night.

Totally possible they don't do an in-store. RSD is getting huge, like to the point where stores only let in a certain number of people at a time. The logistics like floor space might not lend themselves well to it. I still hope, but don't bet on it.

i dont really think any of the shops near the club lend themselves to an in store set, honestly. none of them have a lot in the way of open floor space. the local shops that do are in virginia and even then, theyd probably have to sacrifice some rsd traffic to make it happen and that might not be worth it
i guess theycould set something up likethat time patterson played in an alley beside deep groove, but i dont think its a guarantee. rumning into patterdon shopping seems far more realistic to me

The Mitch Hedberg line, "Nobody here has seen me on David Letterman. They would be better off saying you may have seen this next comedian at the store."
My favorite DBT moment of heading into Mountain Jam in NY one morning picking up beer at the store. Hey isn't that the Trucker's bus? Hey isn't that Cooley throwing trash into the bank's dumpster? We hung out for a good 20 minutes with Cooley and David Hood.
