What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

This is right around the same time as the Truckin' Up to Buffalo show, right ?

Love this tour. Wasn't on my radar until 6 months or so ago.

Brent on fire.
yep, Buffalo was 3 days earlier. And this tour is also documented on the Downhill from Here DVD from Alpine Valley. The Alpine Valley run also supplied the material for that Meet Up the Movies thing in theaters

I can't even tell you what that's doing to my head. Buying that album when it was current was adult me still keeping up w/ the kids. I get that many people here (or at a random rock show) first heard the Stones or Springsteen or the Clash or Elvis C or Prince from their parents' record collection. I don't even try to pretend that I'm not old or that I'm a contemporary of the average music fan. But Susan Tedeschi? That makes me a whole different level of old that I wasn't quite prepared for.

McMurtry Live in Europe

Ruby & Carlos is such a razor sharp but devastatingly sad song.

I heard all the aforementioned stuff from my folks, as well.

To be fair, in 1998 I was buying my own music (I was 13). But my dad picked up the Susan Tedeschi album (we were both active music purchasers at the time) and I dug it. So it's not like it was something that predated my existence, so much as my dad was the person who exposed me to that contemporary artist.

I submit that Ruby & Carlos is the only song in existence to incorporate and rhyme 'Coggins Test'. Lights of Cheyenne is also a standout on that album.

My thoughts exactly, Beantown and Jonicont! I got into Tedeschi some time last decade before the TTB formed and was impressed with Just Won't Burn when I picked it up. Definitely makes me feel a different level of old like you said. ;) (Heck, my parents wheelhouse is Elvis, Patsy Cline, and the 1910 Fruit Gum Company and possibly the Fred Waring...)

kiss made great album covers. spent hours staring into them back in grade school. urban myth that i still believe......the black circles in ace's boots were actually magnets that were polarized opposite to the metal stage that would allow him to fly high into the air while ripping creaky solos. as you know, he was the spaceman.

"Romeo Had Juliette" sounds like a mash up between "Marry Me" and "Shattered". Obviously a song released 10+ later by a band Lou Reed was probably barely aware of didn't influence this, but it's just what I hear in my head.

I'm seeing him open for John Moreland in June at the Codfish Hollow Barn (Maquoketa, IA). I've only really gotten in to one Centro-Matic album ("Love You Just the Same"), but it should be great.

Super cool venue in the middle of nowhere. Just an old barn where they hold the shows, and you can camp for free in the adjoining pasture. I think there's some connection to Daytrotter (Maquoketa is just north of the Quad Cities), but they've got a killer summer line up that includes Son Volt. A lot of other 3DD approved artists have played there in recent years.

Never heard of this guy, but read a glowing review and heard the first couple of songs, and jesus christ, this is the saddest thing ever.

What a great release day. I no longer care if THS never releases another record, Finn doesn't need that vehicle anymore. Great stuff.
