The Nashville Sound - June 16th

Post by Iowan »

Title and release date announced.

Based on the title, I could see this being a real shit-kicker old school country album. Somewhat in the vein of Sturgill's "High Top Mountain".

Or it could be a somewhat ironic title meaning to stir some shit?

I think he's trying to stir some shit. I'm hoping he does it with the music as well as the title.

Separate...live album is an EP specifically for Record Store Day. Here's some info: http://www.recordstoreday.com/NewsItem/6707.

Titled "Live from Welcome to 1979" and track list (mostly covers) is:

1. Can't You Hear Me Knockin
2. Storm Windows
3. Heart on a String
4. Atlantic City
5. Sway
6. Never Gonna Change

Damn! It's good. Sounds like Jason may be releasing an AB of his own.

Meh. It doesn't feel like he's taking much of a chance musically or politically. He can turn a phrase with the best of them but his songwriting still mostly leaves me cold. I don't actively dislike his songs and this one, while a welcome uptempo break from his other stuff, certainly doesn't push the envelope.
Kick out the jams motherfuckers.

Anyone think those shots of the flag in that video are an homage to the American Band cover?

That struck me as well. Along with the title "reclaiming" the Nashville Sound, much like reclaiming what it means to be an "American" band.

Consider me excited.
All it takes is one wicked heart, a pile of money, and a chain of folks just doing their jobs

That's interesting, especially since Hyden usually knows whereof he speaks when it comes to DBT and Isbell.

Maybe the hardcore Isbell fans will forgive Hyden for correctly identifying SMTF as mediocre (despite giving nearly every other of his records rave reviews).
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

It's my least favorite Isbell solo album by a mile.

Neat. Clean. Polished.
Holy shit.
Real Nashvillains.

A-Grade artists. The live shows are art.
But lost for telling young boys lies.

Hate to say it but The High Road is boring me. I have faith the rest of the album will be more provocative, but a fight down in the ditch sounds way more exciting than this song.

You can hear "Last of My Kind" on Robert Elms' BBC show around the 2:43 mark.

You have to press play on the main show link at the top to listen to the full show and then skip to the 2 hour 45 minute mark.
