I'll be grabbing this. I have not bought the last few, but I am a sucker for some Dirty Early 80's Dead.

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
31 years ago today! I had a tour book for the entire tour (actually most all of 1985, saw every show that year that wasn't in CA) and for this show was the very corner seat of the front row in the Phil Zone! Good times. First set was pretty sweet. Second set was the shortest I ever saw, only 5 songs, but still, everything pre-drums was sweet

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
There was a time (around 1995-2005 or so) when I was REALLY into the Grateful Dead. I had a little over 150 shows on cassette and CDR and most of the Dick's Picks that had been released. Sometime about 10 years ago or so I completely burned out. I hadn't listened to a Dead show in years until a few weeks ago. Slowly but surely I'm starting to get that Dead mojo back, have unpacked my Dead cds (got rid of the cassettes many years ago) and have started really listening to my favorite era again ('69-'73/'77). I'm a little pissed that I missed out on the entire Dave's Picks releases so far, prices for those are crazy on the secondary market.
It's good to be back.

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
another "31 years ago today" post. Simply one of the hottest shows I saw (out of nearly 140). Released as Dick's Picks 21. The next night was awesome as well, but rarely if ever gets its due compared to 11/1

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
that 12/9/81 shows has some blazing Jerry, his guitar tone is insane. It also features perhaps the most butchered Jack Straw of all time. But wasn't that the beauty of Garcia and the Dead? They could go from brilliant to horrible back to brilliant all in the span of 5 minutes. I'll never forget seeing Jerry literally nod off during a later day Stella Blue. Pretty sure he woke himself up bouncing his nose off his mike then proceeded to let loose one the most beautiful solo's I ever heard the man play.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro

not a DSO fan a bit but would change my mind if they played this Jack Straw exactly as the Dead butchered it

Wow! Really? Definitely on board for another subscription. I got this show years ago from a spindle a buddy of mine gave me of extra Dead shows he had. This is the show with the "Tiger Jam" in Here Comes Sunshine, no?

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread
I was gonna take a year off subscribing to Dave's Picks but then they go and tempt me with a '73 show. So I'm in for another year.
Truly, though, it's the gift that keeps on giving. If you catch the early bird special (before 11/28), it's $100 with free shipping for FOUR triple CDs plus the bonus disc. By Dead standards, that's a steal. And it's always a good day when one arrives in the mailbox.
I never thought I'd say this, but I hope there's some more eighties stuff this year. Even I'm starting to agree with the Deadheads complaining about the emphasis on the seventies (and I love seventies Dead)
Volume 20 might have been my favorite in the series so far.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I only just now learned that the Gloria Jones, who was a member of the JGB is the same Gloria Jones who recorded the original version of Tainted Love, and was Marc Bolan's girlfriend, and mother of his son Rolan.
