Phil Cook - Great Tide. His album is probably my most anticipated release of the rest of the year (9/11).

That's actually a re-recording of a song off the toubadours' first album, written by bassist RC Edwards. Bot h versions are wonderful.bovine knievel wrote:

When you linked Ascending into Madness a few weeks back, you called it his most personal and honest lyrics in some time. I think Massacre may top it. That's some shit right there.

the part where he sings "And I may not be normal but nobody is so I'd like to say 'fore I'm through" is one of the most brilliant vocal phrasings I've ever heard. Could listen to this every day forever and it would never get old

saw them open for Wilco at the Fillmore in 97. Tweedy thanked them and said that "they are from Holland", to which John said, "no, they are Dutch," to which Jay said, "wrong, they're from the Netherlands."

still kills me to think i passed up a bill of Buffalo Tom / Bettie Serveert / The Verlaines in the early '90s. luckily i did get to see the Verlaines twice, both incredible shows.
