Great stuff, Iowan!
Yesterday day I visited Jack London State Park. I've been wanting to see the Wolf House ruins. What a spectacular place! If you're not familiar with it... Google it.

Me, too. Takes me back to going with my dad on sales trips and selling people better equipment to replace their fucking John Deere bullshit. Seriously, it really does bring back pleasant memories on a day when memories of my native Oklahoma aren't altogether pleasant.Iowan wrote:Not the pristinity (word?) of nature that we usually have hear, but with spring hitting hard on the northern plains, we've been in the field for a week, and Clams loves the tractor porn.

I won't take any offense. We're not John Deere purists, it's just that they have - without question - the best dealer network in our corner of the world. No other company even comes close to the on-the-spot service they can provide, as they simply have more dealers close to our base than anyone else.John A Arkansawyer wrote:Me, too. We had all red equipment when I was a kid, and then ran Cats for awhile.

Re: Outdoor Thread
About all that's left from my childhood of Allis Orange is a couple of my dad's old ties, and that lawn tractor that's still running (so far as I know). And service when you need it, and most especially where you happen to be when it breaks down, is one of the best salesmen there is. My dad spent a lot of time working on the machines of the farmers he sold to, and a lot of time in the shop at the main dealership. He was indeed a great salesman and that was partly because he knew he wasn't doing it all by himself. Proud but with perspective. More pleasant memories--thanks for bringing them to the surface!Iowan wrote:I won't take any offense. Mrs Beebs cousin is a big sales director or something for John Deere. He's responsible for all the big accounts in Texas and maybe OK and some of the Southwest, or something. I don't know. Anyway, my kids have more god damned JD hats, clothes, toys... any kind of swag you can possibly imagine. It's ridiculous.Iowan wrote:I won't take any offense. We had a closet full of farm swag when I was growing up. Free hats and the like. My old man never wore any of it, and when I went to college the Ashton Kutcher "trucker hat" fad was hitting hard. I sold a bunch of old seed and machinery hats for beer money my freshman year.Beebs wrote:Mrs Beebs cousin is a big sales director or something for John Deere. Northern Cache County, Utah
The Tetons from my brother's porch
The take-out on the Henry's Fork, Idaho
Fingers crossed, my new property
Re: Outdoor Thread
Where's your bro live and where's that new property? I've got a sister in law and her fiancee recently settled down in Victor. Hope to get out there soon.UTHeathen wrote:The Tetons from my brother's porch

Re: Outdoor Thread
That new property would kick ass. The Tetons have to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Re: Outdoor Thread
The property is about 10 miles east of Ashton, Idaho, which is about 50 miles north of Victor. We actually drove through Victor yesterday on the way home. Stunningly beautiful valley. We'll be back up there in a couple of weeks to see the DBT's at the Grand Targhee Musice Fest, which is just East of Driggs, Idaho.Beebs wrote:Where's your bro live and where's that new property? The property that we are looking at is 1.6 acres, with a third of it wooded with mature Aspen and Douglas Fir. Over the back fence is state land, Forest Service land is less than a mile away, and Yellowstone is about 7 miles as the crow flies. Wouldn't be the least surprised if there have been Grizzly Bears and Wolves on the property.
No matter how many times I see the Grand Teton, it still takes my breath away.

Right on. Stop in at Teton Brewing Co and say hi to Ashley.UTHeathen wrote:We'll be back up there in a couple of weeks to see the DBT's at the Grand Targhee Musice Fest, which is just East of Driggs, Idaho.

Thanks amigo. There are five world class trout streams within 20 miles, so you might just have to come test them out.bovine knievel wrote:Good stuff happening in here! Hope you get that property, Brett.

Found a nice lake in Berks County, PA farm country and caught a few bass the other night. Fun stuff on light tackle (6 foot rod, 4# test).

Re: Outdoor Thread
So a few weeks ago we drove the kids up to Gloucester, Mass for a short family vaca. Junior and I got up early a few days to fish the rocks for striped bass and, one morning right after sunrise, I noticed a man taking pics in our direction with his phone. Fast forward a few hours later at breakfast, we were talking about the fishing, and a guy at the next table goes "Excuse me, I just overheard you talking about fishing, was that you on the rocks this morning?" I said yeah that was us and he said I've got a great photo of you and your son, give me your email and I'll send it to you....
