As well as the above blog voting Low as Bowie's best album, the Pitchfork list of the Greatest albums of the 70's voted Low at No 1 as well.

It is my favourite Bowie album as well. Got me thinking, how many other legendary artists (who sold tons of records) would have an album that perhaps 80% of the general public would find unlistenable(well side 2 certainly) as their crowning achievement?
I would bet a big fat zero.

Neil Young's "Doom Trilogy" is not very popular with the general public but highly rated by Neil fans and critics:

"Exile", particularly the last couple sides, isnt anywhere near what your average music listener would tolerate, although I concede its not exactly the same case as with Low.
I think most artists' more difficult records are often the best rated critically.

What do you all think about Tin Machine? Kind of a transition from the 1980's pop era to later more experimental sounds in the 1990s. Could be viewed as an early grunge sound. Apparently he worked with Gabriel Reeves for much of the remainder of his career. Other bandmates were 1970's comedian Soupy Sales sons.
RIP Starman. You will be missed.

I listened to the first album a lot when it was released. Re-visited it a few years back and actually thought it had held up well. TM II was a disappointment.blackwll wrote:What do you all think about Tin Machine? Kind of a transition from the 1980's pop era to later more experimental sounds in the 1990s. Really good BBC documentary on Showtime for free. "David Bowie - 5 Years". From 2013. The BBC does this sort of thing real well.

Such a Bowie list!!
The best album (that I have heard)is LKJ's Forces Of Victory imho. The greatest "British" reggae album ever made.

The American Library Association is re-issuing this 1987 poster. I remember this, and decided to order one this time around.

Yeah. This is so good. I think I will actually purchase the issue and it's been decades since I bought an actual hard copy of Rolling Stone and I never expected I ever would again. The tributes are fantastic, my favourite being Noel Gallagher's (fuckin' hell). He's endlessly hilarious while also being appropriately respectful. But if you're totally humourless you might not appreciate it.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:this is an excellent read

These are pics of John Beverley (aka John Simon Richie), more famously known as Sid Vicious of The Sex Pistols.Zip City wrote:I don't understand any of thatlinkous wrote:Those pics are of John Beverley, and I claim my £50Zip City wrote:
