$30 for a single LP!?!? that's a domestic pressing?Duke Silver wrote:I think hearing it on vinyl was part of what made it click. The production is deceptively rich and warm. Sneaks up on you. I balked at the $30 price tag, but I'm a completist. Wouldn't be able to sleep at night having part of his catalog on CD, part on vinyl.lotusamerica wrote:How's the vinyl? (How to Forget still sucks. As does Super 8.)
And it's maybe important to keep ahold of one song you hate. Leaves room to grow into it... hahaha
Fuck. That. Shit.

If I'm not mistaken, Jason goes by his middle name and his first name is Michael like his dad. I could've sworn I've seen or read that before.adiantumpedatum wrote:Also, the part about "At 17 I went by Michael"-- that's his dad's name, I take that to mean that growing up in a family like that you've got the expectation of living up to your mom's/dad's name on you from the start, even if their name isn't your own. Damn tight spot to try to fit into.
Re: Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free 7/17
Yup. For example, scroll to the bottom of the Codeine lyrics for the publishing info. "Written by Isbell, Michael Jason."

Yeah, it's Billboard. Now #1 across a bunch of categories. Good for him.phungi wrote:nor it is iTunes download charts...brstigerfan wrote:I saw that too, and it is quite impressive. Looking up lyrics back in the day must be how I stumbled across it. Formal songwriting credits definitely list his first name as Michael. For example, I just did a quick google search and found that "Feb 14" is credited to "John Michael Cooley; Patterson David Hood; Michael Jason Isbell; Bradley Scott Morgan; Shonna Lee Tucker."Zip City wrote:

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Wilco's are all priced that way too. Luckily there are only 2-3 bands who can make me pull the trigger at that price.tinnitus photography wrote:$30 for a single LP!?!? that's a domestic pressing?Duke Silver wrote:I think hearing it on vinyl was part of what made it click. I bet if someone were to start an Isbell message board it would be a success, especially at this stage of his career. By the way, that's not meant as a slight or criticism, just a suggestion.Tequila Cowboy wrote:No rule against Song of the Week threads for Jason. Bro-Country? I don't think that word means what you think it means.

As someone who hasn't set foot in a church for 15 years this is a weird thing to call out, but the line "Sunday morning I'm too tired to go to church" kinda bugs me.
My grandfather worked the same factory job for 40 years and rarely, if ever, missed a Sunday morning. My dad did similar work and I know for sure "I'm too tired" never flew on Sundays in our house growing up.

I edited my post to say "truck commercial" rather than "bro-country" as I think that's more accurate.
