The Matt Patton Thread
Now that he's an official member, I figured we needed a thread to celebrate the awesomeness that is Matt Patton.

Count me in. Welcome, Matt* and congratulations!!
Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to get these guys into the studio and make 'em stay until an album emerges.

Well that's just fantastic. When was the announcement? I missed it.
Turn you demons into walls of goddamned noise and sound.
Re: The Matt Patton Thread
It was apparently announced on-stage last night, but here hasn't been an official announcement yet.
Re: The Matt Patton Thread
It is on his Facebook which apparently is how those things are done nowadays.
Congrats Matt.
It did take some thought on his part because he has a good job he likes a whole lot with the state of Mississippi.

A great dude. Congrats Matt! Happy for you.
Re: The Matt Patton Thread
The Stones still haven't announced Ronnie Wood as a member.
I met Matt in Boulder after the Sat show, he was the nicest and most sincere dude in the world. Good for him. And good for the Truckers!

Awsome. Had a chance to meet him in Athens but didn't say anything. Too bad because everybody says he's super nice.

I have to admit that I'm curious why not, if you don't mind saying.

This is just pure curiosity here. I'm not judging you for feeling the way you feel. But what do you not like?

Great news! I haven't had a chance to see him live yet, but based on what I've heard from streams and such, he'll be a great addition. It's been nice to hear actual bass lines behind the songs and not just the farty, bwomp bwomp bwomp I've grown accustomed to.

Re: The Matt Patton Thread
He killed it Aug 1st in Birmingham. Hope the recording process is going well.

That's a terrible thing to say about David Barbe's playing.

Re: The Matt Patton Thread
I'll admit that most of the time I either can't hear or just don't notice the bass that much. Shonna had some standout individual moments. Used To Be A Cop was one for sure. But usually I didn't notice or just couldn't hear her. A lot of people complained about her playing the last year or two that she was in the band. I have no idea what they were hearing. To me it comes down to Matt seems to be having a lot of fun up there. He brings a bunch of energy to the show. That was lacking in that spot for a while. I did notice that. Not bashing Shonna and trying turn this into him vs her that's just the difference I've noticed since he came on board. I don't know all that much about bass. Not enough talk about it like I know something anyway.

Re: The Matt Patton Thread
Don't think it's so much playing as gear. Shonna used an all-tube SVT rig, Patton uses a solid-state amp...lots more midrange punch.

Also. Patton plays with pick, Shonna use fingers. That, to my ears, influence the sound quite a bit, but also tends to take the playing styles in different directions. I find Pattons bass figures a bit faster, snappier (more percussive) and a tad more inovative.
