I put together a spotify playlist of the Stones' country songs; lemme know if I missed any:
Let It Bleed
No Spare Parts ("new" addition, but it might be my favorite of all)
Sweet Virginia
Dead Flowers
No Expectations
Far Away Eyes
The Worst
Torn & Frayed
Country Honk
Biggest Mistake
Wild Horses
I also put Marianne Faithfull & Keef's cover of "Sing Me Back Home".

That's so harsh, But I'm not dating someone who predominantly listens to country, I assume I would have nothing in common with them, and when I dated someone who was into techno, back when I thought techno was BS and not real music, we didn't work out because I just thought his music was bad and didn't have any feeling behind it.

I think, but I'm not sure, that a holler in KY = a notch in NH.

Holler's a common term this far down, but where I live is the absolute last foothills of the Appalachians (bottom of the Sand Mtn region). If you notice in the Appalachians, you never pronounce the "ow" at the end of any word - so follow becomes "foller" or "folla", etc. Just a small valley between two hills.
edit: I also have a friend from rural New York who refers to hollers as "hollows" and we give him hell for it.

I always figured they were one and the same. I know others did it before the Grateful Dead but I thought a "holler" was what they were singing about in "Dark Hollow".

ok, this best 100 country songs of all time by rolling stone mag..i guess i should be some what honored to even be on it at 90 but ''you don't have to call me darlin', darlin' '' by steve goodman ain't on the list..what about 'ol shep' i mean 'old shep' by red foley didn't make the list? there's a bunch of others too i would image y'all would agree should be on there but ain't..if i was to make a list of the best ever country songs i wouldn't leave out 'mother, queen of my heart' by jimmie rodgers.
so i don't agree with those elitists know it all groovy cool lets put kanye on the cover again never been to gruene hall dumbasses.
but thats just me. i may be biting the hand that feeds me here but they never revue my records anyway but even if they did, i'd still say those songs should be on the list and call them elitists know it all groovy cool lets put kanye on the cover again never been to gruene hall dumbasses.
got to get to new braunfels here in a minute.
once again thanks to buffalo, cleveland, hagerstown and nelsonville for vibes of niceness.
yours truly,
rwh
well, once again i guess i let my alligator mouth over load my jay bird legs..the rolling stone guy who wrote about me on the list seems alright. keith harris doesn't come across as a never been to gruene hall dumbass as he was aware that the band cracker cut redneck mother and even calling me 'second tier' didn't bother me. but 'only classic song'? where you been keith? come to a gig and see the response snake farm and drunken poets dream get. its wild. conversation with the devil goes over pretty good too. dare i say future classics? double dare me? future classics.
i guess maybe i just can't put one song i wrote above another i wrote..i don't play favorites (well i guess i do play favorites as to what people wanna hear but i don't favor one song over another and..and..hold on a minute..i just confused my self there, so never mind)
i should do a list of top one hundred music writers but there may not be that many of them: thom jurec, dave marsh, sylvie simmons, richard skanse, michael corcoran, john t. davis, jim caligiuri, andy langer, paul t mueller, rob patterson, tom geddie, joe nick patoski, eileen mcclelland, brad beheler, kid in lubbock i can't recall his name at the moment..and there's some more but these are just off the top of my head..oh yeah, jim beale jr..damn, lessee..mario teradell, margret moser..ah..ah michael hall..damn, there's some great ones i'm forgetting..jeff hines, greg johnson, saving country music and farce the music guys, ..aw man, that no depression cat..and since he did mention cracker, keith harris..
well thats a start of writers who i feel are in the trenches of really knowing and caring about music more than just getting a paycheck to write a good revue of an artist whose record company has bought an advertizement in the publication they work for.
i'll list more when i get some time to think about 'em.
if you are reading this and are a music critic and i didn't mention you, its because i didn't want any one to think i was just listing everyone who has given me a great review in the past. i know because of your integrity you'll give me that great review on the next record even if i didn't mention you this time..
boy. this was a shamble of a ramble. i have no idea where i was going with this.sorry.
yours kinda squirrely,
rwh
