Megafaun came out of the gate kickin' ass tonight with a show stopping intro into "Heretofore". "I Shall Be Released" was as chill inducing as I was hoping (if not even more so). "The Weight" to kick off the encore in honor of Levon had all of us singing with tears in our eyes but they were definitely very joyful tears. Hope someone was able to film it; looking very forward to hearing the recording. If this turns out to be the last Truckers show I see for while it was a damn good one to go out on. I'd love to see them collaborate with Megafaun more sometime in the near future, that would be the shit.

Will try to keep the hyperbole to a min., but it's gonna be hard.

This was going to be a special show for many reasons, but for me it brought me back to the scene of my first DBT experience, Cat's Cradle, 2005. The band I saw last night was harder, softer, tighter, more relaxed, happier - and better, than the band I saw in 2005. I simply don't know how they do it.

I've never cried at a rock show. "The Weight" was so well done and genuine as to defy description. Patterson said if he'd had a son, he was going to name him Levon. Tears filled his eyes. I hope there is a video.

Long show (ended around 1pm), which was great. Big Tom 100 shout out was very cool. As always, a real pleasure chatting w/ Craig. And Matt Patton - damn son! He was breaking out some bass lines that were absolutely ass-kicking....and the band and crowd responded a a big way. Loved seeing Cooley jamming with him and enjoying it so much.

Tyler and I were center-rail WED in Norfolk and last night. No barricade, so we were up front and up close, like it should be. Amid all the other highlights, damned if Patterson doesn't give Tyler the mike during LTBR!! He was so pumped and so deserving - it made my night. I am sure he is on cloud 9 right now....as he travels down the road to Wilmington for night 4 in a row!

Finally, "the guy at the end." As I was leaving, drained and grinning, this guy is out on the side porch, with a look of awe on his face. I asked him if it was his first show and he said his second. He wasn't saying much at first - like he was trying to figure something out. I hung with him for a few more minutes, because it seemed like he had something he wanted to say. Finally, "I'm a musician, and I learned so much tonight. That's how you do it." I smiled and shook his hand and said "you're right," and headed east towards Raleigh.

Thank you, guys. I feel really lucky to be right here, right now.

EDIT - without a doubt, a Top 3 show for me. In full agreement with Tyler. Tom was taping and can't wait for the recording. I have a feeling this one will be one that's remembered for a long time.

EDIT2 - SDZ was harder than I've ever heard it. Fantastic version! The whole night had a stepped-up energy that had the band and crowd firing on all cylinders. And that Neff - speechless. And he was more pronounced in the mix - woohoo!

Great reports, folks. Thanks and keep 'em coming. This southeast run seems to be a real tour de force. Which sucks for those of us not in the southeast, but still...

Anybody see Lone Wolf last nite? He hasn't been around much lately.

After an 80 mile drive home and a few hours of sleep I made it to work in one piece with the help of several cups of coffee. And to put it mildly the show last night was worth the lack of sleep. Had an absolute blast last night with DBT. We saw quite a few familar faces from the 40 Watt and various DBT and Isbell shows but still haven't put names to faces.

Some semi-random thoughts:

1. Was great to get The LIving Bubba as an opener, we missed night 1 at the 40 Watt run this year and I was so disappointed when I heard what they opened with that Night 1, knew I wouldn't probably get to hear it rest of weekend. And it's always great to get a Shut Your Mouth --> Angels and Fuselage closer.

2. Some nice rarities, at least to my ears. Margo & Harold , Aftermath etc. My one big regret is only discovering DBT a few years ago, feel like I've missed out on so many great shows.

3. The Weight....wow, just holy freakin' cow wow. Very moving and very awesome.

4. Matt Patton was fantastic. From the big grin, the rocking out, the little shuffle step dance he was doing I really enjoyed watching and listening to his superb playing.

5. First time at the Cat's Cradle and didn't really care for it. I don't think the tin ceiling does much for the sound. Didn't really matter as I was singing like a fool most of the night, I'm a little hoarse this morning. I know some of you don't like those of us that sing along, but when I see DBT I just can't help it.

6. Buttholeville...yes, please do State Trooper, please do State Trooper...oh man they didn't do State Trooper.

Bottom line, had a great time at a great show. One day soon Tracy and I will make a preshow because I'd love to put some names to faces.

naw, i was looking for him but don't think he was there. Great show, packed house. Starting out the show with Bubba turned out to be bittersweet. You know yr in for a show if they're starting out with that & the rest of the show was awesome but right before set break, my buddy gets a call & comes back & says we have to go. His gf's sister was just found dead, od'ed. so f'ed up & of course we hearded straight out back home. Hate i missed that encore, can't wait to hear the rest when it's seeded.
Just cause I don't run my mouth don't mean I got nothing to say...

Wow. Just watched the video of "The Weight" and got chills. I can't imagine how incredible it must have been to hear it live.

Big Tom, that is one hell of a 100th show! Congrats again, and happy to hear you got a shout out.
