First Air of Autumn Chords

Post by LastLawson »

Thanks to RevMatt for writing out the lyrics.
Tuned down one whole step.
The non-strumming guitar (Patterson's I presume) plays this riff over the first part of the chord progression (F C), followed by regular fingerpicking for the rest of the progression, starting with Am:

D(Normally E string)---3h5-5-3---------
A(Normally B string)-------------5-3----

First Air of Autumn

F C Am
First air of autumn up your nose
Dm Am F
Popcorn, heavy hairspray and nylon pantyhose
F C Am
Please stand and bow your heads and pray you don’t get old
Dm Am F

F C Am
The nurture and the admonition of your kind
Dm Am F
The rules of only strong survive
F C Am
Cross shaped swimming pools down in the blood and lifted up
Dm Am F
Forever seeking favor from the mind (mine?)

F G
Schoolhouse hallway like a prairie highway sprawls
C Am
The drop off spins away the sun
F G
The getting there just proves its nothing but a ball
C Am
Pray the horizon never comes

F C Am
The hearts of the daughters of the men
Dm Am F
Won by the softness of the sons of women’s hands
F C Am
To leave it up to love would leave it left to chance
Dm Am F

F C Am
Memory only shows the promise beauty broke
Dm Am F
A beauty ageless in its time
F C Am
Light attracts the same you glance away and the glory fades
Dm Am F
And being on your arm has lost its shine

F G
Schoolhouse hallway like a prairie highway sprawls
C Am
The drop off spins away the sun
F G
Like eyes that once could cut through candle power on autumn nights
C Am
First air of autumn leaves me numb
