YouTube Lessons

Post by Buford »

I've got the Drive-By Truckers guitar lessons channel started on YouTube. Not much on it yet, but will be putting more on it soon.
Just search for DBTguitar.

Time for me finally to learn some Truckers songs and this looks like the place to do it.

Excellent vids, nice work!

Thanks for the kind words. I would like to get a couple Cooley songs on there, but I'm finding it difficult to teach one of his songs in 10 minutes or less. However, I'm getting closer. I've been working on Zip City and Women Without Whiskey. My goal is to put as many lessons as I can on there, as soon as I can, so I'm doing the easiest ones first.

Zip City would be easiest, as there aren't even any real licks in it.

Sounds Better in the Song would be good too, as it's a tricky sequence, but once you learn it, you just repeat it over and over
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Thanks for these. Gives me an excuse to pull the guitar out of the case and practice!

I haven't been to your channel yet but I love that you're doing this! DBT is the band that inspired me to learn to play 3 years ago and Zip City was the first song I learned.

Cool(ey)!

Listen Buford, these lessons are seriously great. I know the vast majority you've done already, but it's been fun comparing how you play them with how I do. We concur about 99% of the time. Thanks again for your efforts.

Folks if you want to learn these songs check these vids out. Terrific stuff and the price is right.

Sweet stuff man. I'm a good enough guitar player to play in the Ramones (so I'm a straight chord man), but this is some nice stuff.

These lessons are so great -- I've been playing through them all and really learning a lot and having a blast. Buford, if you get the time and inclination to do some more, I'll repeat my request from the other thread for Space City. Would also love to learn Patterson's song Screwtopia. Just about any of Jason's solo/400 Unit songs would be awesome as well. Thanks again for all the fine work you've put into the videos. They're greatly appreciated.

I hope I'm not asking too much, but could you try "The Opening Act?"

I'll start on in a few minutes. Just waiting for the battery on the camera to charge. It should be up tonight.

I don't know how to play Space City, but do know quite a few Jason Isbell songs (DBT and 400 Unit). I don't know Screwtopia, but think I could learn it pretty fast. I'll give it a try.

Hey everybody, sorry I've been slow slow in posting videos recently. I have family member that is pretty sick and we (my family) have been putting in a lot of hours helping each other out.

Sorry I couldn't get The Opening Act loaded last night. I couldn't get a good take. I will try again tomorrow. I know how to play it, but it's a lot harder to explain.

No hurry man and with family member sick I'm sure you've had more important things going on. I can't explain how much I appreciate all the effort and time spent doing this. It's a giant help. If I ever get to see you at a show you deserve at least two beers and a shot.

I've got a pretty good grasp on Space City and will do my best to tab out what I've figured out so far and let folks fill in the rest from there. It's going to take me about a week to do it though ( i've got stitches in my index finger on my left hand and I'm leaving town for a week) but I'll get it posted as soon as I can. In the mean time it's in Trucker tuning (tune everything down a whole step) and drop the E string -tuned to D in Trucker tuning- down another step to C, That's how you get that deep rich opening note.
