Open Tuning

Post by Coleslaww »

Hey Everybody!

Hell yes DBT rocks the WORLD! Ok Ok, now my question...

We all know that 99.9% of the DBT tunes are played on guitar that are tuned down a whole step, but what tuning is Neff playing when he is straps on his Gibson and starts playing slide guitar? Is he also a step down from Standard or is he playing with a 'Open Tuning' that is in same key as the song.

Thanks

I read somewhere that DBT actually uses some guitars tuned standard and some tuned a step down. Since there's three guitars going, it gives a bit of a separated sound.

Hmmm, maybe.

I was thinking about the tuning Neff would be in while playing his slide. I'm new at trying to play slide but if I were in standard tuning playing in the Key of D, I think the slide guitarest would be in Open D.

So's I was wondering what open tuning to use while the rest of the band was a whole step down.

Couldn't you take a standard open tuning in whatever key, take D for example, and just tune that down one step?

D A D F# A D becomes E B E G# B E ?

One way to find out
Not forever, just for now.
