RIP LBROD

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

RIP LBROD

Post by Jonicont »

Rod was hospitalized at the end of November. No one had heard from him since. Bovine contacted the police for a wellness check. Rod’s sister was there and said he passed. That’s all the info we have now

As John said he stopped responding to messages from everyone around the beginning of December. A few of us did some detective work (which was hard because Rod isn't on any social media except 3dd) and we learned that he had been hospitalized earlier this month. Bovine eventually called the local police to go to Rod's house for a wellness check and the officer called back with the news.

This is gonna sound silly, but Rod's been in the 3dd fantasy football league for years and he's in first place this year. He was always really into the league and when he didn't set his roster for this past weekend's games I knew something serious was wrong.

Rod was a smart, caring and fun guy. Gonna miss him, especially in Athens next month. I bet he and Smitty are up in heaven right now listening to Cowboy Junkies and DBT and smoking a big ol' joint. A world of hurt, indeed.

Horrible news.

He was one of the first people I got to hang with at my first trip to Athens back in 2012.

I have fond memories of Rod. They often involved late night BBQ.

He was never afraid of just being himself and speak his mind.

RIP LBRod. You will be missed buddy.

Chatted with him at Shoals Fest at the beginning of October. The last time I saw him, I was on the way to the bathroom mid-show and spotted him in a lawn chair. He'd set up at a spot where he had zero hope of catching any glimpse of the stage, but he was leaned back with his eyes closed and looked really, really happy--like he was just soaking it all in.

RIP Rod.

Such sad news. One of the nicest people you could hope to meet, my condolences to his family and friends, and all those of you who knew him far better than I did.

I am not good with words so I'll let the wordsmith say it for me.

Rod was one of those people that I immediately connected with. The Rock Show will never be the same. Rock on, My Friend.

When I think of 3DD, Rod is one of the first people I think of. He's been a stalwart here from the beginning and his loss is unfathomable. Such a good soul who always greeted you with a big smile. RIP Rod, you will be sorely missed.

Bovine was able to speak with Rod's sister. I was comforted to know he'd had a nice Thanksgiving with his family. But a few days after, he felt unwell and ended up in the hospital, where he was found to be in multiple organ failure. He was put into a medically induced coma and there came a point where they had to let him go.

I have heard that his sister Joyce may log on here to give us details for a memorial. California contingent will represent.

I am so fucking sad.

Geez, just as in non-virtual life, it takes a death/funeral to bring people out and together. How many times have I alone said at a funeral something like "we really ought to get together at a better time" and then done nothing about it? Why do we do this? I mean it's better than not communing at all, but we all ought to do better in both our virtual and non-virtual lives. Just yesterday an old and dear friend who lives about 3 or 4 miles from me dropped by to say goodbye before moving 3K miles away. We asked each other multiple times why we didn't get together more when we had the chance. Neither of us had an answer.

Well, better late than never, here's my first post. Rod from Los Banos here, and those were two fantastic nights of incredible music.
I managed to work my way up close to the front both nights and enjoyed meeting a number of you good folks. Having that powerful rock right in your face is even better when surrounded by others who share that intense joyous feeling that only comes from the best live music.
Here's to many more great nights to come,

Rod

I am pretty sure that Rod didn’t have a mean bone in his body. I also know that if I randomly knocked on his door at 3am, he would take me in; he was that kind of guy. Rest In peace, my friend!

I’d like to know, as I’m sure others would, of an appropriate way in which to pay tribute to Rod. Memorial fund charity???

Last night after reading the news I pulled out my The Company We Keep (DBT yearbook) and studied some great pictures of Rod; he had such a kind smile! The book has a great picture of him getting a kiss on the cheek!

From WWCD:

"[Rod] and I covered a bunch of miles, a bunch of lost hearing, a bunch of empty glasses/bottles, and a shit ton of laughter."

That hit me right in the heart.

I've been trying to think of a charity or cause Rod supported, other than being a benighted libertarian. I think he would probably just ask for more support for Nuci's.

Every time I come on this site lately there is more bad news. I am so bummed to hear about Rod. Although I have made many online friends here through the years, Rod is only 1 of 2 people I have met in person. Got to talk to him at a couple of LA shows. He was a really nice guy and had a similar taste in music to mine. Plus he was a Mother Hips fan. RIP Rod, your presence here will be missed.
