I don’t remember how it happened but I became a fan and was crushed when he was killed. I was 12 and at peak baseball fanaticism. Even more so when Munson died the next year. I was at the Munson tribute game at Yankee Stadium the first game after he died. A moment of silence became a spontaneous standing ovation. Gave me (and everyone else, I think) chills. I've been a pretty standard "sit around and wait for the 3 run homer" type of fan for a long time but I'm enamored by the newfound efficiency in basestealing, too. I do think the impact of these rules on pitcher health needs to be studied (and I am sure it is) but I don't think rule changes are the driving force behind all the Tommy John surgeries.
