Hey Floyd-you ok out there

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

Thanks for checking in. Been a rough ride since Thursday but we are safe, for now. Never had to evacuate but it was touch and go for a while on Thursday/Friday. On phone so will save lengthy reply for later when I can sit down with computer. I’ll likely have a lot to say.

Until it rains, the entire area (and by that I mean the overwhelming majority of northern CA) will remain on high alert for new fires

Bovine and I both know people who have lost homes- in my case, we still have several friends who don’t know for sure that house is gone but assume destruction

Not exactly certain, but the outer northern fringe of the fire was at times less than 10 miles (probably 6 or 7 miles) from our house. The gut of the fire was more south. We were/remain prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice but thankfully that order never came. The local authorities very much err to the side of caution when ordering evacuations, and we trust their judgement

Glad you're all safe. Beth's sister is in Malibu and they were affected by the Woolsey Fire. The home they were renting is still standing but the outside storage buildings were a total loss and the home is uninhabitable. They're not able to get in yet to see what personal property they've lost but it's likely to be most of it. Everybody is safe there too but have rough times ahead.

Don't even know where to start

First off, walthers has family who were directly impacted, people who had to flee Paradise and who lost homes. I'll leave any further details for him to share/post if he wants to. Same for Bovine Knievel and his friend Kevin. I've only been inconvenienced and scared shitless--they've had to deal directly with this total disaster and deserve all the attention/thoughts/empathy/etc that anyone wants to share. Jen and I know many who have lost homes and at least as many who assume their home is gone but have yet to hear anything definitive.

We are safe and our home is intact. So far the town of Chico has not been hit, though since Thursday the fire has been lapping at the edges of town and is still doing so. Hotspots are continually flaring up and demand attention- word is that one has popped up and entered the very northern part of upper Bidwell Park. I am not sure but that is around 15-20 miles from here, with most of the distance between there and here being covered by the wilderness of upper park. However, when you get about 5 miles from our house upper park transitions into the lower, urban section of Bidwell Park that runs all the way to downtown. I live about 1/4 mile from the urban section. Bidwell Park is one of the largest city parks in the country. I mention all of this because a fire in the upper park could easily get into town

As many of you have seen on the news, Paradise is pretty much destroyed. Literally. Paradise sits, say, 8-10 miles east and about 1500-2000 feet above Chico on an area known locally as The Ridge. Word is that over 50,000 people had to flee the Ridge. I imagine the majority of evacuees are here in Chico--drive down any street and it's obvious that seemingly every other house is hosting family/friends who evacuated. I am surrounded by neighbors who are sheltering friends/family. As one would expect, these people have the ungodly dazed bearing of people who have been through hell. Definitely more traffic on the streets, as there is not just thousands of evacuees but also fire fighters and vehicles from all over the west. Every shelter of any kind is full, as are hotels (probably for 100 miles in every direction).

I had to stop watching the news footage over the weekend. It became overwhelming and after a certain point was just disaster porn, as the kids say

As I said before, over 50,000 have had to evacuate, and a great many of those people most likely don't have homes to return to. Chico proper has a population of around 90,000, so we're almost certainly gonna absorb a significant % of our population in evacuees. The Ridge/Butte County/Chico is going to be greatly changed in ways no one can yet see, to say the least. When all is said and done, this is gonna be a disaster of historic proportions- hell, it already is, even if it totally stopped right this minute :( :( :( Paradise is known for being popular with retirees but isn't particularly affluent, and the further you get out of Paradise into the surrounding small communities the less affluent the people are. What I am saying is that the overwhelming majority of people burned out on the Ridge are not well off by any stretch

Sorry, I'm well beyond rambling at this point. I'm sure I've left out details that will seem obvious to those looking in from outside, so if anyone has specific questions please ask. I'm a good bit scrambled right now but will try to answer as best as I can. Yesterday morning when I was thinking of what to post it seemed fairly focused and coherent, but alas that isn't how my mind is working right now.

Enjoy every sandwich and hug those you love!

TC, so sorry to hear that, hope Beth's sister is safe. Malibu is one of my very favorite parts of CA, I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could. If it was good enough for Jim Rockford it's good enough for me. But seriously, you are so correct about rough times ahead. It's gonna be brutally rough and will last a long time. I wish I had something super wise to say but I don't seem to be up to the task

Man, I can't fathom a disaster of that proportion; I'm so glad you and yours are safe. When I saw an interview with first responders who were operating a control center in Chico you're the first person I thought of. I messaged him, but if you do talk to bovine let him know we're thinking about him as well.

Jesus- many areas severely impacted by fire, Paradise especially, are now having flash floods. Chico is a good bit lower than Paradise and parts of town are flooded (not uncommon in rainy years). Phone has been exploding all day with emergency/evacuation reports for certain areas. Butte County can’t catch a fuckin’ break

Excellent, albeit lengthy, article on Paradise

Imagine most have (understandably) long since moved on from paying attention to what's going up in Paradise. That said, I highly recommend this article. I actually learned quite a bit about local history, especially regarding how Paradise came to be settled

Alive and kicking. I think he might have snapped from the onslaught of large black penis over the last few months though.

I'll allow Clams and Bovine, the surf & turf comedy duo, to explain themselves. I won't speak for them, but I'm certain they'll want to share the guffaws, chortles, and yucks with everyone ;)

Is Floyd OK?
First, yes, I am OK and have been this whole time. I wish I had some exciting/dramatic reason--rehab, mental meltdown, helping OJ find the real killers, epic 6-month bender, writing the great American novel-- for being silent all this time, but alas it's pretty mundane. If you were expecting some sort of great story behind me being gone- well, when it comes to disappointing I never disappoint

I had greatly reduced posting late last year after I had fried my home computer. Didn't bother replacing it at first and loathed posting from my phone, so that's how it began. And being a creature of habit I got used to not posting and Bob's your uncle. I was in extremely regular contact with quite a few 3DD peeps during this time so I was never completely severed from the community.

I have immersed myself in a massive archival project of my live recording collection during the lockdown, and that combined with everyday chores/life has kept me quite busy. I have been meaning to make this post for at least a week but just kept losing track of time. I just filled another hard drive so now I've got a free moment while I wait for a new drive to arrive.

During the shutdown we've pretty much done what we should with respect to social distancing. We have several large parks within walking distance of our house so we're able to have all kinds of outside activity while keeping our distance. We see plenty of people who aren't keeping distance with one another but they are totally easy to avoid. I've increased my activity quite a bit over the past two months and I'm without question more fit (at least physically  ) than I was at the beginning of March

Gotta say that I am both quite touched and embarrassed by this kind of attention. I realize that the mystery might have been more interesting had I gone the Garbo route (here's looking at you, Bubba 8-) ) but a mystery was never the intention. Hell, there wasn't any intention to begin with

There it is. Sorry to shatter the legend but it is what it is.

Am I back? Who knows.... it's not like I was really gone in the first place ;)
