But when the Knicks were in it we had Marv Albert back when he was incomparably great bringing it all to us in real time through the magic of radio. He was the Vin Scully of basketball back then.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:I remember that quite clearly as well. The legendary game six of Lakers/Sixers 1980 Finals came on at 11:30 PM (it was shown live in something like only 5 cities). I remember I was sleeping over at a friend's house and we ignored his mother and stayed up to watch itLBRod wrote:P

If you aren't following Joel Embiid's almost daily forays on the playgrounds of Philadelphia, you are missing out.

You can own one, too, for a shade over $46,000.

If I was a Sixers fan, his almost daily forays on the playgrounds of Philadelphia would make me nervous as fuck, given his history of fragility going back to his day at KansasClams wrote:If you aren't following Joel Embiid's almost daily forays on the playgrounds of Philadelphia, you are missing out.

We now live in a world where Nick Young has a ring. Even though I am a Warriors fan, I am definitely not down with that

John Beilein leaving Michigan to take a 5-year deal with the Cleveland Cavs according to reports. Didn't see that one coming.

Re: 2017-2018 NBA thread
Always somewhat surprised when one of the college coaches w/ dream jobs leaves for the pros. Sometimes they've worn out their welcome, sometimes they're one step ahead of the posse, but otherwise you gotta wonder. I'm sure it's more money but they're already doing pretty well, to say the least, and the college jobs are a lot easier and generally more secure. Is it ego, are they tired of the recruiting or with complying (or not complying) w/ all the absurd rules, fulfillment of a lifetime dream or what?rlipps wrote:John Beilein leaving Michigan to take a 5-year deal with the Cleveland Cavs according to reports. No. You must also be "misinformed". Michael Jordan was all about the money and did not give a shit about social causes. LeBron cares deeply about social causes and really doesn't care bout money. So if Daryl Morey and I are miseducated, perhaps LeBron would suggest we go somewhere- I don’t know, maybe a camp- where we can be re-educatedcortez the killer wrote:No. You must also be "misinformed". When asked about the plight of the Uighurs, LeBron’s all like, “damn, I haven’t thought of White Chocolate in years!”

Re: 2017-2018 NBA thread
For sake of clarification: my beef with Lebron here is that after him being so outspoken on political and social issues within the U.S.- takes that I have in most cases agreed with completely- he decided to bend the knee when his bank account is personally threatened (plus I thought his comments about Morey being misinformed were way off-target). I totally get the fear of that, relatively speaking- any threat to my meager bank account would be stressful as hell. However, if I had held myself up as some kind of champion of social justice in situations where I had nothing to financially lose only to do a 180 when it affects my, as the kids say, bag, then calling me a hypocrite/someone with transactional morals would be more than fair. Dude wants it both ways

Re: 2017-2018 NBA thread
This interview is not about basketball--it's about the new Adam Sandler movie, Uncut Gems, but I thought this quote belonged here:
Howard, the character Adam Sandler plays, falls in a long tradition. I think the humor of the film is explicitly Jewish. I think that the concept of being a Knicks fan is explicitly Jewish. This concept of learning through suffering is very Old Testament.
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be
