You've probably heard about the massive Equifax data breach. Equifax is offering folks a one time free search to see if your info is "in circulation" on the dark web. In order to get the search you have to sign up and in order to sign up YOU MUST WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS TO SUE, OR TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT, against Equifax.

The waiver might or might not make sense for you, but you should know about it before you sign away your rights. Not surprisingly Equifax has buried the waiver in the fine print.

In the interest of full disclosure, equifax has rescinded the waiver of legal claims as part of their terms and conditions so I suggest going ahead and signing up for their protection service. I'd file under "necessary but not sufficient" so you should check other trusted sources for how to best protect your identity and credit, but this is a good start and it's free for a year.
