NFL 2017
Things are starting to get serious now that it is week 3 of the preseason. Time for some trash talking (only in fun, please!). My beloved Seahawks are looking good this year if they can get their O line issues sorted out. My AFC team is the Raiders. Hoping for a Hawks/Raiders Super Bowl. & for Beast Mode to have a shockingly good season. So, GO HAWKS (& RAIDERS)!!!!!

It feels weird seeing ESPN talk about the Titans lately, but when you’ve got a QB ready to take the leap and two potential Pro Bowl running backs, I guess the expectations are gonna come. Unfortunately I can’t shake the feeling that the Colts or Texans will scratch their way to a 9-7 record and win the division if we slip up.

Re: NFL 2017
The Vikes season hangs on the offensive line. We had the worst rushing offense in the league last year, and that's just not a recipe for any sort of success. They've added a lot of guys on the line and in the back field to change that in 2017, but they'll probably all die between now and week 8.

The Bears will be hot garbage and I won't waste a lot of time watching them

Trubisky looking like he might not have been a bad draft pick. Now about the other 52 on the roster....Zip City wrote:The Bears will be hot garbage and I won't waste a lot of time watching them

Not much makes me sadder than the fact that I can no longer stand a sport that I enjoyed with gusto for over 40 years. When I decided to take the 2015 season off I didn't realize I was going to give up entirely but nothing I've seen since then has changed my mind on how much I dislike the League, the Commissioner the current game or the team I gave my rooting interest to for all those years. In fact the only sports I can stomach anymore are baseball and hockey and I have my beefs with the NHL as well. If you had asked me 5 years ago if in 2017 I would be avoiding my third season in a row I would have laughed at you. Oh well. I hope y'all enjoy.

Re: NFL 2017
I will admit I don’t enjoy it near as much as I used to. Between Ray Rice, Deflategate, and now Kaepernick it’s become almost impossible to watch an entire game without the mute button on. Hoping the supposed 2021 strike actually happens so the NFL will look in the mirror and hopefully change some things.Tequila Cowboy wrote:Not much makes me sadder than the fact that I can no longer stand a sport that I enjoyed with gusto for over 40 years. Re: NFL 2017
I agree with a lot the points above. I still love the game & after years of suffering have a great team to root for. Along with the UW Huskies, Seattle has a pretty good chance of being the center of the football universe this year. I think the thing that bothers me most about the NFL (& to a degree all of the major sports) is how corporate USA has now taken over everything. That & the constant propaganda for the war machine. Greed has taken over & the pricing for tickets is making attending a game a major financial undertaking. With the NFL, even the meaningless exhibition games are exorbitant. Due to "variable" pricing, my seats for 1 game this year literally doubled in price with ticketbastard taking an extra $60 in fees on top of it. I'm still into it for the sport itself but am getting disillusioned. The worm could easily turn when there is a downturn in the play. & I've been a fan since day 1 of the franchise. Finally, the media needs to back off the anthem thing. It's a nonstory being blown up to epic proportions & am sick of it.

i usually play music while watching games, and only cut to the audio feed if there's a ref call that has some explanation.Sterling Bigmouth wrote:I will admit I don’t enjoy it near as much as I used to. I do the same thing, also when watching NBA games. Most commentators these days are just plain average or outright bad.tinnitus photography wrote:i usually play music while watching games, and only cut to the audio feed if there's a ref call that has some explanation.Sterling Bigmouth wrote:I will admit I don’t enjoy it near as much as I used to. Outside of my team, I barely watch the NFL these days. When I was a kid, I inhaled everything I could about it.
It's such a cliche but the "No Fun League" moniker couldn't be more true.

I prefer college football 10 times out of 10. I have friends who hate college ball, mostly due to what they call the "skill gap" between players. Yes, I get it, something like 2% of college players even sniff the NFL, but I just like it more

Just a much more fun atmosphere in general. In my case it’s why spend $100 to go to Nissan Stadium and be suffocated with advertising and promotions when I can pay $40 to go to Neyland Stadium and have a much better time.Zip City wrote:I prefer college football 10 times out of 10. Regardless, I’m just excited for football in general. Glad I have fantasy to keep me invested at least.

Re: NFL 2017
if the NFL has an image problem (and i agree that it does), college football does as well. the hypocrisy of the revenue generated by the players who don't see a dime of it, under the guise of amateur athletes who are there to get a college degree, is nauseating.Zip City wrote:I prefer college football 10 times out of 10. Re: NFL 2017
I'm with you 100%. A college game experience just blows an NFL game out of the water. Marching bands, stadiums with people's name on them, friendly social drunkeness as opposed to people getting knifed and the human toilet on display. Instead of 30 communities represented, you have the entire country invested in the sport. There's a multitude of offensive and defensive styles and unique traditions, and the whole production value is a fraction as corporate. Yeah, there's the absurdity of "student athlete", which sucks, but may change soon. The other knock to me is that it's champion is still determined through more subjective means than any other team sport, but that adds to the entertainment value in it's own weird way.Zip City wrote:I prefer college football 10 times out of 10. Re: NFL 2017
This is true, but it's really the only knock on the college game and I think there's enough sentiment against that it will go away in the next 10 years.tinnitus photography wrote:if the NFL has an image problem (and i agree that it does), college football does as well. the hypocrisy of the revenue generated by the players who don't see a dime of it, under the guise of amateur athletes who are there to get a college degree, is nauseating.Zip City wrote:I prefer college football 10 times out of 10. Re: NFL 2017
My favorite player: Earl Thomas III. not Bette Davis eyes! Seahawks destroyed KC in dress rehearsal for the season. The defense is looking solid as usual & Russell Wilson seems to have a lot more weapons at his disposal. Minnesota in February could be lovely.
Re: NFL 2017
The Lions starters fell behind the Patriots starters 28-0 last night before the second teams came on and the Lions made the score close. I think it will be a long year and I don't see any chance of returning to the playoffs. And the worst part is that the Lions are basically the best Detroit sports team around these days.

The Seahawks trade to get Sheldon Richardson could very well be the push over the top. The D is going to be absolutely ferocious this year. GO HAWKS!!!
Re: NFL 2017
Wow! The Patriots get smoked by the Chiefs. The season is off to an interesting start. Maybe Belichek & Brady need to go back down to the crossroads & reup the contract...

Re: NFL 2017
So much for an undefeated season. Don't know where those predictions came from but didn't expect them to be blown up quite so soon, lol. So many holes, so many weaknesses. I don't know whether it's that speed kills or that lack of speed kills but either way the Pats couldn't keep up. And that was not the worst of their problems. One assumes that there's no reason to panic but that's based a lot more on past history than current perspective.
PS If that rookie running back for KC is available in your fantasy league I strongly suggest picking him up

And of course I chose to roll with Todd Gurley instead of Kareem Hunt in fantasy last night Sure hope Eric Berry is alright though, one of my favorite Vols and NFL players ever.
