got a question for the 3DD'er community

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

got a question for the 3DD'er community

Post by tinnitus photography »

seems like Kudzu feels i torment him and others endlessly about what people choose to listen to, their sock choice, and whether or not they hang their toilet paper away from or towards the wall. now, i've been known to not be a very big fan of musical abominations such as Jimmy Buffett or the Avett Brothers, but i didn't think that i was some sort of 5th horseman of the musical taste apocalypse. I thought that position was already filled by Linkous.

so let's have it... am i painfully non-selfaware of the emotional pounding i've been laying on the community, or this is an isolated case of butthurt?

i was gonna post a poll in case people felt like they needed to voice their opinion anonymously without living in the fear of brutal reprisal and endless Keiji Haino references, but i guess there are no poll options so this is what it's gonna be.

Isolated butt hurt.

I think droning tuneless guitars and random screaming into mics is a musical abomination, but I have no doubt you 'd chuckle and point out that I like the Eagles. If you can't take some light hearted ribbing or disagreement about taste in music, you probably shouldn't be discussing it. There are few things in this world more subjective than music taste.

And KG, don't take this as me suggesting you quit the board. I've picked up some great records thanks to you (Backsliders, FTW) and your contribution here is valuable. I'd just suggest lightening up and just bust balls back without letting jokes get so far under your skin. You'll have more fun here, I guarantee it.

We bust balls hard at work, and the baseball message board I frequent does the same, so when I float over here I often bring that tone with me.

It's all part of the game and generally makes for a more interesting board/life. And I've even tried some of that hellacious metal crap you try to foist on us, tin, which at the very least serves to confirm my superior taste.

One of the things I like about this community is that almost w/out exception posters stay on the right side of the infamous "line" but even better, if they stray across it someone will pretty much always let them know it and tranquility is quickly restored.

The one thing I've noticed that might be worth a second thought is that for long term posters, occasionally a meme/trope/stereotype they're associated w/ can be saddled on them long after it's outlived its point which can get annoying and who knows, might seem unfair. Just for the record that's not a subtle complaint on my part: If i can take "bubba hen" i can take pretty much anything and, hell, being called fancy by this crew isn't saying very much at all.

PS: By the way Kudzu is right on Buffett. The only question is when's the cut-off date. A good chunk of his earlier stuff shows real talent and is an enjoyable listen.

Kudzu, thicken your skin and learn to take a joke. Instead of getting pissed off, just poke back.

don't know if I should comment, giving that I am involved in this recent KG situation, and some in the not-so far off past, but anyway......... butthurt, not sure if it's isolated

Funny thing: I've been involved in a ton of music boards over the years--GD/Phil Lesh, Neil Young, Gourds, et al.--and other than the Rust List (Neil community), 3DD is easily one of the more "kids gloves" boards when it comes to the back & forth ballbusting. Please take that for the neutral/non-judging statement that it is

outside of politically-slanted back-and-forths between wolf and cole, i would think that zip has suffered some slings and arrows from my bilious quiver, but he seems to be fine w/ the banter.

that's kind of why i posted this... if i was inadvertently getting people really mad, i'd want to know about it!

anyone who knows me in real life knows that i am a snarky bastard, and ball-busting is part of my daily routine. so KG, apologies if you took it really personally (which it seems you did).

2 Fla. Men Dead in Shootout Following Online Dispute

Two men were killed Saturday morning in a shootout following an argument outside a St. Augustine, Fla., convenience store. Detectives say the men had been involved in an ongoing “digital communication” argument and had agreed to meet at the store. Once meeting up, however, a verbal argument turned physical after the two men each drew guns and shot each other as several uninvolved people entered and exited the store.

me?

No, wait, we like a lot of the same stuff. though my taste in metal is the "classic" and "thrash" and "prog" end of the spectrum with some "drone" and "industrial" thrown in. I just giggle at "black" and "death" and stuff because its too Metalocalypse or those "The ten most hilarous black metal photographs ever" clickbait.

wait, what are we talking about again?
I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.

Many people in my immediate & extended family tried to inculcate via their words and deeds a hatred for black folks. It backfired, though - now I'm extremely prejudiced against old white people. Fuck them!

Unless they're included under "old white people" aren't you forgetting a certain institution located about 10 miles from Chapel Hill? (I hesitate to name the town much less the institution).

The Yankees.
It would probably be overstating it a bit, but New Jersey sort of qualifies.
Nobody had to teach me to hate cats, I figured that out all by myself. Same w/ the Cowboys.
Nazis, both literal and figurative.

But mostly it was distrust/fear, not hate. Everything from authority to Arabs, including mostly everyone who wasn't just like me, at least to some extent.
