Wow! Those are impressive! I've seen some good shows, but nothing like that!!
Living a bit south for the real good shows now, but every now and again you can really see the sky light up!

This is like asking me to dance to the sound of wolves mauling a reindeer.

Mid-Atlantic, too far south. But I called my dad in way upstate NY and told him to keep an eye out. I saw them a few times in Alaska. They're a major trip.
Not forever, just for now.

When I was a kid, my dad had us pulled over between Lake Zurich & Barrington, IL. looking at what he called the Northern Lights. They didn't look anywhere near as cool as this.

Awesome indeed. We used to see them when we'd venture up to the Northern Minnesota/BWCAW area.
It's an unforgettable sight.

This is the only kind of northern lights I have ever seen.

I may be mistaken, but I think the southern shore of Lake Ontario is around the furthest south they can be seen.
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts

Spent a lot of time in Ak but so far only in summer. I've seen them once from Cooperstown, NY which I think sticks to your assertion Rev. though it could be a tad south of that.

Yeah, Cooperstown is south of that. We've had a place in Vermont my whole life, but I've never seen them from there. My Dad has, though.

they can be seen @ any latitude above 35' north.
this last round was seen in southern iowa.
it depends on the strength of the solar storm.
they have been seen as far south as texas.
very rare indeed.
from spaceweather:
THE SHOW IS OVER ... FOR NOW: Geomagnetic activity has subsided to low levels and the aurora show of August 3rd and 4th has come to an end. At the height of the display, Northern Lights descended as far south as Wisconsin and Iowa in the United States.
All in all, it was the best aurora display of the year and the finest of young Solar Cycle 24. As solar activity climbs toward a maximum in 2013, this kind of event will become increasingly commonplace, happening on a monthly and even weekly basis. Are you ready?
