Thankfully I was traveling so didn't get to see that one. Ugh.
Injury to insult: Lloris dislocated his elbow and is out until at least the new year

Isn't this "no room for racism" week?

Spurs were awful again. At some point the Parcells theorem applies ("you are what your record says you are"). Still feeling guilty about dropping Kane from the decent dudes, but also more than a little relieved.

So I guess Spurs live, for at least another week. Perhaps a 5-0 Champions League win will serve as a Premier League jumpstart. Perhaps.

Really happy with Villa's performance of late, other than blowing a lead to Arsenal and only getting a draw from Burnley after having a lead, so glad they picked up 6 points from last two. That said, they are about to enter a minefield for the next 6 matches:

@City
Liverpool
@Wolves
Newcastle
@ManU
@Chelsea

after that things normalize until mid-January when they City comes to Brum on the 12th. Really anxious to see what they can get out of the next 6 matches, this will be a good measure of what they really are. I'd be fine if we just survive these 6 matches in good health, anything more than 3-4 points would be a huge bonus (I'd feel more optimistic about taking 3 from ManU if it wasn't at Old Trafford- even though they are down a home match is a home match)

So I added Vardy a couple of weeks ago and made him captain. I'm... pretty pleased with that so far. :o

Quite the battle at the top of the table. And look who's number one: the rookie, uncle rickey. How embarrassing. Just remember, Unc, it's a long season.

What the heck is up w/ Mo Salah? (Van Dijk too, but I could live w/ him if Mo would get in gear) I already got rid of Kane and I just can't keep carrying these 8 figure stars who don't produce.

Spurs really are going nowhere this year though they did look marginally better Sunday even (because?) w/out Kane.

he's dinged up with a persistent ankle injury, plus he's had international play, EPL, Champions League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and god knows what else to wear him out.

Barring any serious injury, I think you gave yourself the best advice:

just remember, Bubba, it's a long season ;)

obviously not Premier League, but here's a big belated thumbs up to Sac Republic FC becoming an MLS franchise!!! Their proposed new stadium will be easily accessible from Chico, probably 80 miles away and a straight shot, so gonna look into season tickets for their debut in 2022. Might be more $$$ than I care to spend but you never know

Believe me, I don't credit it to any special knowledge on my part. Vardy alone has gotten me 62 points in the 3 weeks I've had him. But I find I'm watching more matches than ever before, so it's been fun to pretend I know what I'm doing.

FYI and also FWIW- while Spurs are currently 11th in the Premier League table, according to the Global Soccer Rankings at 538** they are, as of today, 13th on the entire planet (with only 3 other EPL clubs ranked higher) ;) go figure

Which simply proves that not even the sainted Nate Silver knows everything. Or maybe the level of world soccer is a lot lower than we (or at least I) thought. And this week's Championship League blow out win is duly noted.

I would highly recommend looking into tickets. I have season tickets to Atlanta United and you would be surprised at the prices...
MLS is still fairly reasonable priced cause its still growing.

It's just like US sports teams/leagues: You can't fire the players, so you fire the coach. I don't follow Spurs in enough depth to know about all the charges, counter charges, dissension, finger pointing, etc but, as in the US, I tend to be more cynical than hopeful about these kinds of changes, at least for the current season. I just hope I remember to set the dvr for tomorrow's 7:30 am match (I won't get home until late tonite).

And the new era begins w/ a convincing 3-2 win over West Ham that was not nearly as close as the score might indicate. WHU scored twice in garbage time, once in the last minute of stoppage time. It was one of those games where one could argue whether Spurs were that good or West Ham that bad, but still...

Dele seemed to be awake which is an improvement and several steps in the right direction, lucas maura faded in and out but when he was in he was as good as he should be and harry kane seemed to be enjoying himself, at least a little bit. Son was his usual self (he's been essentially the only bright spot this season). Winks played at least as well as i can remember this season. The back half did what they were called on to do and played w/ cohesion. What to do w/ Erickson appears to still be an open question.

As some wise man no doubt once said in the murky early days of English football, "3 points is 3 points."

Talk about catching lightning in a bottle: I added Vardy 8 weeks ago. Since then he's scored every week, netting Goodison Field Road 163 points by himself.

Are Spurs back?
Do I need to trash my team in order to get some Spurs back where they belong on Decent Dudes?

Inquiring minds need to know. This week's rematch w/ Bayern may help answer some questions.

PS Yeah, UR, I noticed.

I thought it worth noting that the league championship has come down to the final Sunday in a very tight race between Uncle Rickey and WWCD. After doggedly chasing down UR for much of the season, WWCD finally caught him last week and now we will see if Rickey has the necessary grit and fight in him to wrest back the trophy on the last day of the season.

Congrats to Uncle Rickey for eking out the slimmest of victories. An exciting finish. The battle for 3rd place was close too, and I wound up losing it in a crushing last day defeat.

Thanks, Bubba. As I told wwcd (who was my EPL sherpa all season long), I had a hell of a lot of fun, way more than expected, playing and watching this year. The final week was a thriller: down 19 points to start the day, I had several of my guys have big days, and I was texting and doing math with Floyd back and forth throughout the matches. (When Bruno Fernandes scored for me on a PK in the second half, I thought I had it sewn up, but then Danny Ings got a late goal for wwcd, etc etc etc). The final tally came down to the week’s bonus points, which I thought left me a little short, but wwcd’s additional transfer penalty put me over the top. Crazy! So much fun. I can’t wait to do it again (hopefully) come September.
