I read that as well. I'm surprised they don't have Papa John do all the terminating, sounds like he's the boss there

decent read, with the very last two sentences being the money shot

Pitino lasted through the things he did because he was so good at playing the game, but now the government has decided that playing the game itself is illegal. In the screwed-up world of college sports, paying prostitutes is apparently less egregious than paying student-athletes.

This could be the tip of an iceberg that radically alters college sports.

I'm not totally opposed.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd say that they dropped these story right now to take heat off of the flailing NFL

While this will end up being a black eye for the sport, I have to think it’s gonna be a good thing in the long term. Try to get CBB (relatively) clean, hopefully spread out some talent now that the major powers at least can’t blatantly cheat to get big time recruits.

They aren't going to reform shit until they burn AAU basketball to the ground

You’re not wrong about that. If there’s anything more crooked than college coaches, it’s high school AAU coaches.

I hope there aren't too many people talking shit to the schools who are in trouble, because I think we are about to see dozens more programs get nailed. They'll all start flipping on each other to minimize penalties

The longer this goes on, the more I think nothing will come of it. The NCAA has absurdly different standards for "brand" schools than it does non-brand schools. They aren't going to touch anyone that makes money. Not to pick on our Penn State or UNC fans, but if ISU (or a similarly situated program) had done what either of those schools did, we'd have gotten massive, death penalty level sanctions.

They ain't killing the golden goose.

As predicted, UNC got off.

ISU would have gotten the death penalty.

Duke would never do something so terrible

*casually waits for WWCD to be triggered*

you'll be waiting a long time........ Nothing to celebrate here. The stink of this will never wash off, nor should it. I actually expected to get hit in some manner when the report came down, but that's probably me being more pessimistic given the state of our land than realistically thinking we'd pay. I of course didn't want the championships to be vacated but still thought there had to be some punishment. While there is no "rhythmic slapping sound" associated with this scandal, it's massively heinous in its own way, and I'm ashamed

I'm like Doyle in Slingblade: between college sports corruption and Trump I can't even enjoy a beer

So glad I'm out here (not back home in NC) and don't have to be caught up in UNC people rationalizing this and acting like it's some kind of vindication AND taking shit from everyone else. Other than texts from friends, I can tune it out

I think an overwhelming majority of Tar Heels fans would be more than fine with the NCAA killing the football program :)

The NCAA owns the broadcast rights to the March Madness. Its a huge money maker. They don't own the rights to the college football playoff games. All that is to say that they aren't going to come down hard on one of their big rating, money maker schools

anyone else watch the Pitino/Jay Bilas interview last night?

Understatement of the year to say Pitino is the king of "just doesn't get it"

He didn't play the 9/11 card like he usually does but he did mention god a lot
