just read online somewhere that many think Georgetown will go hard for Tommy Amaker, currently at Harvard, and in more of a long shot, Shaka Smart (his seat in Austin is certainly on the "hot" end of the spectrum)whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:Georgetown fired JT3 today

The sooner LaVar Ball goes away, the better.
Smart to Georgetown might be interesting and plausible. They flopped HARD this year.
I wonder if Georgetown could make a hard run at Archie Miller?

I bet Miller gets a long look from Indiana.Iowan wrote:I wonder if Georgetown could make a hard run at Archie Miller?
No surprise here, lots of people are saying Indiana will go hard at Alford. If he wins it all this year, I could see him thinking hard about going back to Bloomington. In doing so he would eliminate having to deal with the other two sons of Lavar Ball, who are already locked in to UCLA (and word is that neither of the other two are anywhere near as good as Lonzo--I actually hear that many think the middle kid is just OK at best).

If social media existed in 2003, Alford would be the basketball version of Art Briles. Fuck that piece of subhuman excrrement forever. Chanting "no means no" at his rapist player was one of my fonder collegiate memories.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:I bet Miller gets a long look from Indiana.Iowan wrote:I wonder if Georgetown could make a hard run at Archie Miller?

A good friend was a star player for the Lady Hoosiers at the same time Alford was playing there. The only thing worse than covering up rape by attempting to get the rapist and rapee to "pray it out" together, is to be the rapist your self.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:A good friend was a star player for the Lady Hoosiers at the same time Alford was playing there. Michigan had their chance...ouch!
WVA REALLY needed one more time out. That last possession was brutal. Too bad, they played their hearts out. But then again, so did Gonzaga. That might have been the best played 25% shooting percentage game ever lol.

3 outstanding games tonight and 1 dumpster fire
Lost another Final Four team from my bracket in Arizona, I had them playing UNC for it all. That leaves me with UNC being my only FF team still alive

Our local bracket pool we do ended up being an all-time high of $3170 this year. My 7-year old son filled out a bracket, but I didn't turn it in because he had picked Louisville and Duke to both lose in the first round (parenting win for me) and I didn't want to "waste" $10 to enter his. After last night, he would still be in the lead by 1 point with 3 of his Final 4 teams left and both national champion participants alive as well. I"m gonna be really pissed if he finishes ahead of everyone and I didn't turn his bracket in lol.

My Wolverines were so close, but just couldn't pull it out. In the end, the Ducks outplayed them just enough and we made enough "little" mistakes that we couldn't overcome. But the last few weeks have been a hell of a run. Not sure if Derek Walton is big enough or fast enough for the NBA, but he is a hell of a leader and will be a head coach one day.
As to Steve Alford, I spent last weekend in Vegas with three Iowa grads, one of whom still lives there and is really close to the sports programs. Safe to say that the hatred for Steve Alford in that state is at epic levels.

I looked at my bracket and it's the same as my son's from here on out, and I'm currently tied for first, so I'm pretty sure I'll win if his bracket continues to do well. We both had UK beating Gonzaga in the finals though, so I'm thinking that's not too likely, so I probably won't have to worry about it.beantownbubba wrote:Never mind being pissed, how are you going to come up w/ the scratch for the kid?rlipps wrote:Our local bracket pool we do ended up being an all-time high of $3170 this year. Re: College Basketball 2015-16
Bill and I were trading a bunch of hoops texts and I said that in general, "I always worry about the toughness of a PAC 12 team, especially when the offense isn't working and they need defense to grind out a win." And then shortly after that we got Xavier over Arizona (who I had playing in the championship game).
This is certainly pandering to a stereotype, that of west coast basketball being sleek but soft, but it certainly has played out that way a ton over the years, and until proven otherwise it's gonna be my default setting.
That said, I think Oregon has a decent shot against Kansas due to this Kansas team playing a brand of ball that is much more like the stereotype of the PAC 12 than that of the Big 12. Kansas might be one of the few teams left that Oregon matches well against with respect to size, even with the loss of Chris Boucher.

No need to apologize for this "stereotype." It's been part of my approach to bracket picking for many years and it generally plays out. Not always, of course, but you don't need "always" to put odds in your favor.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:This is certainly pandering to a stereotype, that of west coast basketball being sleek but soft, but it certainly has played out that way a ton over the years, and until proven otherwise it's gonna be my default setting.

Re: College Basketball 2015-16
Xavier is unfortunately once again put in the spot of being successful and likely paying for it by having the coach poached away to a so-called better job. Chris Mack is now being mentioned for several vacancies, including Indiana. If he were to get lured away, it would continue the long-standing tradition, which includes Pete Gillen, Skip Prosser, Thad Matta, and Sean Miller

Yes, I had the same thought but couldn't remember the years so I figured I'd just not mention them. IIRC there were also a couple of years when Stanford had a pretty decent team w/ some big bangers but they weren't good enough to get too far in the tournament.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:the only recent PAC 12/west coast in general team I can think of that went against type were those tough, defensive-minded UCLA teams that Ben Howland took to 3 consecutive Final Fours.

god damn, the end of regulation and the overtime of Wisconsin/Florida was spectacular! Perhaps not the most beautifully-played game ever but it was exciting as fuck. Was for Badgers but gotta recognize an amazing game-winning shot for the Gators

Xavier/Gonzaga-- want to win: toss up/will win: Gonzaga
Oregon/Kansas -- want to win: Oregon/will win: Kansas
SC/Florida -- want to win: SC/will win: SC
UNC/Kentucky -- want to win: NC/will win: KY
