oops, he did it again

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... -seminoles

dook guard Grayson Allen appeared to intentionally trip Florida State's Xavier Rathan-Mayes near the end of the Blue Devils' 80-65 win on Thursday. It marked the second time Allen has tripped an opponent in the past month. In video of the game broadcast, Allen is seen stretching his left foot backward near midcourt as Rathan-Mayes begins to break upcourt behind him in the game's final seconds. Rathan-Mayes runs into Allen's leg and stumbles to the court.

and this bears repeating

saw last night that Boston College is on the doorstep of being the first major conference school in forty years to lose every conference game in both basketball and football in the same season.

Serves 'em right: I still hold a bitter grudge from the 1994 tournament when Danya Abrams took out Derrick Phelps for the rest of the game with a nasty flagrant foul. Heels lost by three with a team that very well could/should have defended its 1993 title. The loss also ended a 13-year Sweet Sixteen streak for the Heels

man I love this time of the year, no doubt my favorite sporting event (conference tournaments/NCAA)

serious bubble sitting for Monmouth, Wichita State, and Valparaiso. Compelling cases all the way around, with most "experts" saying only one will get a bid

Gonzaga almost certainly out unless they beat St. Mary's tonight to win their conference tournament'

Huge props to the UNCW Seahawks getting in for the first time in ten years. UNCW is where I made my initial and brief 1st attempt at a freshmen year in college (went there right out of high school). My academic efforts never stood a chance once I fell in with the gaggle of Deadheads in Wilmington. Sayonara school, hello tour!

Also props to the hometown UNCA Bulldogs for getting in

The World's Greatest Basketball Party starts tomorrow. Hopefully my boys can get their shit together and make it back-to-back-to-back Big 12 Tourney Titles.

Nothing prettier than the Power & Light District packed with cardinal and gold.

Boston College ended their basketball season by getting routed 88-66 by Florida State in the first round of the ACC tournament. The Eagles went just 7-25 this year, including an unfathomable 0-19 in conference play, the first team to go winless in the ACC since the post-Len Bias Maryland Terrapins.

Against Florida State, Boston College senior center Dennis Clifford had 15 points and nine rebounds before fouling out with 9½ minutes left. Right then, BC’s deficit was somewhat manageable, at 65-56, but quickly climbed back up to 15 points.

Afterward, Clifford was asked what his best memory of playing college basketball will be. He choked up and put his head down, pausing for more than 20 seconds. When he looked back up, his face was red, his eyes were welling.

His answer: “Going out to eat.”

If you remember, one of the times the Eagles went out to eat, half of them ended up sharting out their Chipotle burrito bowls. That a crying Clifford still named eating out together as his favorite college basketball memory tells you all you need to know about just how dismal the season was.

I should be punched hard in the mouth for ever even entertaining the notion that NCSU would win earlier against that Methodist school from Durham. One can never trust the Wolfpack to pull off the wet work against the arch enemy

Good game with terrible officiating on both ends.

What do think of Buddy, Iowan?

I love Niang. There is not a team in the country that he would not make better.

Buddy's the fucking man. Probably the best individual player I've seen in years.

Last night's game pissed me off and amazed me at the same time. You never want to lose, but we needed rest too. Could be a silver lining.

good lord, the full slate of college hoops yesterday was absolutely amazing: 4 OT Cinn/UConn featuring insane last second shots, Buddy Hield's buzzer beater that didn't actually beat the buzzer, Cal/Utah thriller, my Heels curbstomping the Irish, and that only begins to cover the action. For a rabid college hoops fan like me it was heaven

That was a good game to watch.

15 years sounds like a real rough stretch.

Ta Heels picked a perfect time to play their best two games of the season. The knocks on them are always toughness (I have been extremely vocal about how soft they play for, well, forever) and their inability/lack of desire to defend. The past two games had them clamping down on D (Paige on Brogdon last night, prime example) and playing tough like hasn't been seen since Hansbrough and his 2009 champs. If they are able to keep it rolling they will be formidable..... but as always that is a big IF

dook a 4-seed? seems a bit generous for a team that didn't make it out of the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament and will finish the season ranked outside of top 20. Of course my bias is well-known but still, they should have been no better than a 6-seed by all measures (ranking, Pomeroy stats, eye test, etc)

looks like the Heels could get stuck with Michigan State as the 2-seed in their region. Would definitely not prefer to play that team, especially since you know they are gonna have a big chip on their shoulder over not getting the 1-seed

I was wrong, Xavier is the 2-seed in the East. If things play out Heels would have to play Kentucky in Sweet 16, which could be trouble, I definitely fear them more than Xavier or the 3-seed WVU. Don't relish the thought of playing Providence again, we barely beat them two years ago in the tournament....plus since my wife is from RI and we have a lot of friends who teach at and/or attended PC I always root for them, except when we play them.

hopefully Baylor knocks them off in the second round. They lost to dook in the 2010 Elite Eight, this could be the year. Of course I would love to see the UNCW Seahawks (where I attended for a semester) knock out dook in the first round but I am not gonna hold my breath. Then again, I didn't hold my breath thinking Mercer had a prayer against dook

The Midwest could end up with UVA/Michigan State playing again, which would be the third consecutive tournament in which those two would meet

Syracuse has absolutely no business getting in. I don't care that they are from our conference (which they shouldn't be in, but that's for another argument), they should be in the NIT
