The TV thread

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

I heard a commercial on the radio this morning. Lot's of Jack yelling so tonight could be groundbreaking. ;)

Breaking Bad's entire episode consisted of Walt & Jesse trying to kill a fly, and it kept me totally captivated and the last ten minutes or so was pure suspense - can't say enough about this show.

I was in the waiting room at a doctors office yesterday and they had the New Family Feud on the big screen and a bunch of us who were waiting were playing along. I've never seen two stupider families. They got so many answers wrong it was a joke, plus the people who they surveyed were a bunch of dopes too. And the host kept stumbling over the questions during the 20 second final round (miss you, Richard Dawson!). As an example, they asked for a famous judge, and all the top answers were Judge Ito, Judge Judy, etc.   What has become of us?

I had a Treme marathon this morning. I'm liking it.
Breaking Bad is still the best show on right now. I think Mad Men comes back in July, and it will be the best show on at that point. AMC is getting it done.
I haven't seen Party Down mentioned in this thread. Not many people have Starz, but if you do, you got to watch this show. Very funny stuff.

I am concerned about Chef Jeanette in Treme. Davis is SO wrong for her. And she knows it but wont admit it to herself. Davis is such a douche.

Season finale of Tara kinda broke my heart. Aside from his Pammy mis-step, I'm continously amazed at Max's devotion to and patience with Tara.

OK, so if you see this ABC show (which apparently got picked up for a season) called "Scoundrels": Its a remake of "Outrageous Fortune" The best local TV show we produce, about to start airing its 6th season. Its smart, funny, tragic, the dialogue is spot on and the characters are people who you can relate to and care about. Comedy, pathos, drama: it basically is teriffic. The US one is a remake. It looks to be about as good as the US remake of "Kath & Kim" was.

If you have the opportunity, get the original.

trailer

and OMG the end of series 5: total cliffhanger!!!

Anyone seen the new great white shark show on the Nat'l Geographic channel? They catch these huge white sharks on hooks and then lift 'em out of the water on a big hydraulic platform attached to a research vessel where they tag and examine them, then release them and they swim away. If you're the type that enjoys River Monsters or anything on AP, then you HAVE to check this out. VERY cool.

Who says TV isn't edumacationable? I've just spent half an hour on Wikipedia looking up New Orleans Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras indians, FEMA, and the US&R markings on the buildings.

Go TREME!!!

also, Davis isn't such a douche anymore. he was positively gentlemanly to Annie. And I know that song ("we fired our guns and the british kept a-comin' etc). It must have been big in the '70's when I was a kid. I'm sure it was on a Solid Gold hits somwehere.

edit "Battle of New Orleans"

I've been watching this, its not on tv anymore but the episodes are up on youtube

It cracks me up, Adam Carolla buys the house he grew up in from his dad, him and his rag tag crew tear the house down to the studs and rebuild it. Ozzie is hilarious

If you're hooked on the Mardi Gras Indians, go find The Wild Tchoupitoulas album, which is essentially the late Meters/early Nevilles with Big Chief Jolly (aka George Landry) at the mic. And if that gets you, look for the even rarer Wild Magnolias album.
(And Johnny Horton's "Battle of New Orleans" came out in 1959.)

Johnny Horton was an absolute music staple in our house growing up. Loved all his "history" songs, as well as honky-tonkin' like a motherfucker
