Week 18, the formula has gone to

Geez, go away for a while and the whole system falls apart. Due to some Thanksgiving Eve antics my tablet was destroyed, details forthcoming. I use that to get on here as my flip phone don't work to well, but back to sports.

The SEC has totally sucked in it's bowl games. Tenn kinda put up a fight but...Purdue! Don't they make chickens or something? Thank god for the Cocks.
Theoretically Alabama's is the only team left in the formula by knocking Georgia out.
I don't think the Dawgs get back in but
Alabama beats Cincinnati 52/31

Unless you like people barking in your face, this isn't a good week to be in Athens.

Kirby Smart acts like he stopped maturing at age 4. I'm glad UGA won just for the pleasure of watching Alabama lose. BTW: those visors (hat with only the bill) look ridiculous on 50+ year olds. Has anybody noticed that Bama have very few if any cheerleaders of color? I first noticed this years ago when I went to the opening week of NCAA hoop tournament. Things haven't changed since then apparently.

If I could post pics I would, but check out the UW & WS Cheer squads. Just saying.

It's not super great but a bit better than at Bama, especially University of Washington. I think the year I went to NCAA was 2004. I ended up with Lorenzo Romar's ticket (pure luck, checking website at perfect time) because the Huskies got in unexpectedly. At the time, I was just struck by Bama having all black players & zero black people on the cheer squad. On tv the other night it was a bit better I suppose but it still leaped off the screen. I didn't have that feeling about the UGA squad. I wasn't trying to disparage anyone.

Definitely another reason to be thankful Homecoming was postponed.

3 years ago at Homecoming a group of frat boys in Little Italy heckled some friends and I for wearing UT shirts (the Vols were playing Kentucky basketball that night). Most of it was good natured, but one of them got ugly about it. More than ok waiting a few months.

I don’t know how many of these folks were at the game on Monday, but Alabama definitely has people of color on their spirit squads. Check the link below for proof.

For football fans that are hoping for an end to the SEC’s dominance of college football, here is some bad news...the top 3 incoming recruiting classes are all in the SEC.

1) Texas A&M
2) Alabama
3) Georgia

The frat boys can be obnoxious. I'm a big fan of Guided by Voices. In the early days their shows were unreal good then the frat boys caught on to Robert Pollard's particular performing style (drunk & getting drunker a lot of the time). It changed the tone of going to the shows considerably. The band was still great but the crowds were out of control. I saw one that is known as The Jack Daniels incident locally. There was a frat boy (who just happened to be there with his lawyer) heckling the band & a bottle of JD ended up getting thrown at the guy. He sued the band & while they got off without serious financial damage they were banned from having bottled drinks onstage for several years. Of course they just switched to plastic cups but that doesn't have the same visual appeal.

National Championship games that feature two teams from the southeast continue to have lower TV ratings than games that feature teams from two different parts of the country. The SEC love isn't a nationwide phenomenon

I hope they can revise the playoff format so more teams at least get a chance. I'm not talking 64 teams but maybe about 12 seems fair. It would be a better sample size. With all the new legalized sports betting I'm waiting for the first betting scandal. It's got to be coming, not necessarily in the college realm but that would seem more likely. There's just too much money on the table for more people not to get greedy or in the case of college sports players trying to get at least a piece of the pie.

National Champions! Go Dawgs! We’ve had some near misses over the last twenty years and it has been frustrating. Been a long time coming.

the tenuous connection between the "football" part and the "college" part grows ever more faint.

While I don't think the dawgs will take it again, they probably have better chance than any other dogs...like say, smoky or maybe bully. No wait bully might give uga a run for his money.
Dog picks will be back though.

Hey Clams---

How are you feeling about the game with Auburn?

From my Auburn perspective, I'm hoping to see things come together that didn't come together in the first two games against lesser opponents. I'm expecting Penn State to sell out on stopping the run to make Auburn pass because it would be dumb not to do that based on our first two games.

I'm hoping to see Jordan-Hare provide an atmosphere as fantastic as what Penn State gave us last year.

Based on what I've seen so far from Auburn this season, it feels like a loss (and maybe a big one), but Auburn is historically unpredictable.

=======

I really miss Swamp's weekly predictions the way he used to do them.

Yo schlank!!

PSU this is kinda a rebuilding year for PSU. On defense they've got Joey Porter Jr at CB who's a stud, other than him they need some young guys to step up. On offense the QB Sean Clifford is literally a 24 year old and in his 6th year in the program. Behind him waits freshman Drew Allor who was the top QB recruit in the country last year. He's 6'5" 245 lbs with a cannon for an arm. He's already played a bit and looked pretty damn good. Safe to say everyone who follows PSU would like to see more Allor and less Clifford. Plus we've got a really good freshman RB Nick Singleton. Which brings us to HC James Franklin who is a good dude but a terrible game day coach. With Franklin no lead is safe! Given all that, I'll be surprised if the home team doesn't win this game. Should be a good one!

Dammit. Good game, Clams.

Even watching from home, it's rare that I don't stick it out until the end of a game, but when it hit 31-6, I decided my time may be better spent reading out on the back porch with a sipping drink while I still had some daylight to enjoy.

There were some flashes here and there that had me hopeful in the first half, but the wheels came off in the second half. Hats off to Penn State.
