We had a blast in San Antonio, outcome notwithstanding. I'm really excited about our defense next year, and loved the way Purdy responded to his early fuck ups. If either of Butler or Montgomery come back (and I hope for his own sake Montgomery goes pro and gets paid), we'll have a very good offense (assuming the line can be average).

Does anyone really think Clemson has a shot? I see a similar result as the OU/Bama game. Bama opens a lead, takes their foot off the gas, Clemson makes it look closer than it is. Would have been more entertaining to just give Bama the title a month ago and let Clemson, ND, OU, and Georgia play for 2nd. Bama is becoming a problem for college football, and I don't know how you can fix it other than beating them, which is becoming more implausible with every passing season.

I wouldn’t count Clemson out, especially with how Alabama’s defense looked against OU, but I’m definitely not betting on them. The last time Clemson pulled it out they had a superhuman in Deshaun Watson, which Trevor Lawrence definitely isn’t (though I think he’ll be awesome eventually). My guess is Alabama wins in another high scoring affair.

I'd argue Alabama is GOOD for college football.

A) It's good to have a villain
B) They force other programs to improve in order to knock them off.

When Little Nicky finally rides off into the sunset it is going to be a comedy over there. The nuclear meltdown that fanbase is going to have when they don't get to be national champions ever single year is going to be some fine entertainment. I am actually going to tune in to Paul Firebomb just to watch it unfold.

I don't think dynasties are bad for sports. I'm a Red Sox fan but I don't think the Yankees winning so much was bad for baseball. Here are some of their notable WS-dominating periods:

1936-39
1949-53
1996, 1998-2000

They won 4 in a row, 5 in a row, and 4 out of 5. Alabama would have to win this year and next year to equal 4 out of 5. And yet MLB didn't fall apart in those time periods. Imagine that.

Of course I'm glad that the Red Sox have won 4 WS in the last 15 years to 1 for the Yankees but it's not because MLB needs "parity" to flourish.

As for the game...I think Clemson has a chance but Alabama is the better team and should win the game. Clemson's defense is better than OU's though so I don't think Alabama will be able to score quite as easily as they did against OU.

We're fine with dynasties here. It won't last forever. Everyone else just needs to get better.
No hate for bama from this house.

I don’t hate Bama so much as I find single team dominance boring.

They've won 5 in 10 years. Yeah, that's a lot, but Bama isn't guaranteed winning every year

There’s still considerable work to be done for them to get to Wooden-era UCLA

While it doesn't necessarily change your point, Bill, I don't think one can extrapolate too much from the Yankees runs of 36-39 and 49-53 with respect to it being "bad for the sport." Back then coverage of sports was limited to mostly newspapers and radio, with almost all major coverage being in the home city of the respective teams. There were fewer teams in baseball, and none in the west, so huge swaths of the country probably didn't care all that much one way or the other who won the Series. Also, while I can't say for certain, I think it's fair to say that back then sports generally weren't as big of a "thing" as they have been in recent decades, and any team dominating baseball (or basketball or football) would not have the overall (negative) impact that it would if this were to happen now.

The same thing applies to UCLA's absolutely dominating run under Wooden: if** a team won 10 championships in 12 years now, I think it would have a stifling impact on the sport overall

**=I don't think there is anyway this could happen in the current state of college hoops

Neal Brown leaves Troy to take the WVU gig. I hope he does well cause he’s a KY native and I saw him at a DBT concert in Lexington, KY shortly after he joined Mark Stoops’ staff at UK back in 2013.

I hope he’s Matt Campbell’s bitch, but does well against the rest of the league

Got damn. Bama believed the hype, Clemson went to work.

I wouldn't want to be within a mile of Nick Sabah right now.

I’ll never hesitate to wallow in Bama’s misery, but Dabo might have the next version of that kind of dynasty brewing. Clemson is scary good and even scarier young.

Yup. One more title and everyone will be sick of Clemson too.

It might not get to the level of annoyance that people have with Bama, because ESPN hasn't created a cottage industry out of gagging on the ACC's collective junk.

Holy shit, what a thorough and complete beatdown that was. It raises the question of whether Alabama had a bad day or was that overrated (both individually and by conference). Two things that struck me were (i) the amazing TRUE freshmen on both sides but especially Clemson and (ii) the incredible number of true athletic studs on both teams. The talent was everywhere on the field, sometimes in waves. I thought the days of stockpiling talent in that way were over, but obviously not. It would be, ummm, interesting, to know how they do that.

I don't think it was Bama's best day. They had at least one common opponent, a decent Texas A&M squad. Clemson narrowly escaped with a 2 point win, and Bama eviscerated them.

Now, Clemson was clearly the better team, but I think if they played 10 times, Bama wins 4 or 5.

Neal Brown is a heck of a nice guy and a great coach. I met him before at a hotel pool while he was out recruiting, like a coaches camp type thing. He was very nice to my son too. We live near Troy but this was in Mobile. Glad to see he is a DBT fan or at least exposed thereto. He should do very well at WVU. We are all rooting for him down here.

I think of all the new Big 12 coaches, Neal Brown was the best hire. Or at least the one with the most potential.

Looking forward to chuckling at the continued KU trainwreck. Expect Les '19.
