I’m not one of those SEC fans that roots for other SEC teams. Screw ‘em. I loved that Clemson walked the dog on Bama. But the SEC hate in this thread is hilarious.

It wouldn't bother me to see a second SEC team in the playoff, as long as the Big 10 gets left out. The Big 10 missing 3 consecutive playoffs would all but guarantee the necessary expansion to an 8 team playoff, that would significantly end the dog and pony show eye test bullshit that drives much of the anti-SEC vitriol I've spewed on this thread.

It's really not even about the SEC. It's about ESPN. Like WWCD suggests, I consume as little ESPN as possible, but their influence on the sport is still massive, and setting objective criteria for reaching the playoff diminishes the importance of that.

And my playoff prediction post wasn't really bitching. It's my honest prediction. I'm just unsure of whether or not that 2nd SEC team will be Georgia or LSU. I do think there will be 2 1 loss teams in that league this year, and that will be something that the Big 10 and Pac 12 will not have.

Oh dude, I can’t stand The World Wide Leader. I watch as little of them as possible. If Georgia isn’t playing on one of their channels I don’t watch them. I haven’t watched College Game Day in years and refuse to watch the Paul Firebomb Show. They are well on their way to ruining college football through their stupid, tone deaf attempt to nationalize a regional sport all born out of an insatiable desire to squeeze every last nickel they can out of the sport.

Right. It's not a conspiracy, it's just advertising.

My preference would be an alternate media source with similar resources that covered the game in an even fashion. Fox makes pushes at that occasionally, but pulls the plug quickly.

This. Competition is the key and the World Wide Leader has none.

I don’t watch it either unless we are playing. I don’t care about the conference. The rest of them can all eat mud and step on legos.

Apparently College Game Day has chosen Disney’s Magic Kingdom as its venue for the Florida/Miami game because they are owned by Disney of course. No signs permitted and a $100.00 dollar entry fee. Don’t you just know college kids will be lining up for a piece of that sweet action? It serves as a pretty good metaphor for the twisted state in which the sport is headed.

Hopefully this an outlier kind of thing. One of my favorite memories from college was getting in line for Gameday at 2 AM (and not being particularly close to the front) and spending all morning/early afternoon there. Unfortunately, Tennessee proceeded to lose to Florida in one of the most pitiful football games I’ve ever seen.

I thought this was a "Week Zero" Game Day (i.e. the week before the season actually starts)

It's "Week Zero" because these are extra games, and there's maybe 3-4 of them being played in all of D1. Florida and Miami are actually playing a game that will count on their records.

Arizona and Hawaii are playing the same day.

There are a couple of FCS games that day as well (Nova/Colgate and Youngstown/Samford)

Without even looking at their schedule, I can safely assume that Penn State will go either 8-4 or 9-3

#21 in the first AP. Second time in history we've been in the pre season poll, first time in my lifetime.

Curious to get some of y'all's thoughts on Jim Harbaugh's comments in his forthcoming book.

Apparently he makes some whiny reference to the the SEC being "cheaters".

As I've said here before, I'm not an SEC fan, I'm a Georgia fan. So he and whoever else can flame the SEC until the cows come home. My interest in this is simply from the angle of how self contradicting it is and how Harbaugh seems to want it both ways.

He left his job with the San Francisco 49ers and showed up at Michigan doing a bunch of sabre rattling about how he was going to take the college football world by storm. He then got busy making a big showing of the fact that he was setting up a bunch of sattelite camps in SEC country. Now that he can't draw very many Southern players he wants to turn around and whine and cry that the SEC plays too rough on the recruiting trail.

I like Harbaugh as a coach, but it’s been a while since a coach at a major program has had a personality this grating to me.

Granted, it doesn’t help that it sounds like Harbaugh is doing everything he can to block his players from transferring and being immediately eligible at their new schools (including one trying to play at UT right now).

It's sour grapes. He can't recruit as well as the major SEC programs, he can't get any footholds in their territory, so I guess they're just cheating. If they are more creative at working within the allowable NCAA parameters, they aren't cheating, they're just out-coaching you

I get the impression that cheating is more openly embraced in the SEC, but I don't think that it actually happens more. It's just a little more evident?

Harbaugh just seems pissy that he can't beat Ohio State or the SEC, so he's going to bitch about it.

Love THE SEC, except for alabama.(I'm related to too many of their crazier fans)
But in the words of the man in the box "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying and it's only cheating if you get caught."

SEC (real) Football

Post by Swamp »

I don't have access to stats like I used to but I thought I'd take a stab or shot, if you will, at some predictions.
The rebels don't use the force and lose to Memphis 31-17
Toledo loses to Kentucky 28-6
Miss St wins in Louisiana 35-7
Cocks rawk and No Car don't 21-19
As someone once said "Duke is Duke" Alabama 100 Duke 3
Tenn just slips past Georgia St 5-3
Portland St loses to Ark 19-3
Oregon can't take the heat, War Eagles soar 15-13
In the first big upset of the year Vandy beats Georgia 21-20
Ga Southern loes to LSU 42-7
Don't know who Ga Tech is playing but it don't look like a good day in Geogia

Re: My formula for the National Champ

Since we all know the road to the NC goes through the SEC, I started my picks there. This weeks picks will be last weeks winners regardless of conference.
I was a little surprised that Tenn and So Car were eliminated so early. They can however get back in it by playing a current winner and winning, but 3 losses and you ain't coming back. Not that surprised that Vandy lost but Georgia will have it's hands full this week.
Unfortantly I forgot about the step-kids, Texas inthe Morning and Mizzulou. Lou lost so they're out for now, but AM won and is going to bring Clemson into the mix. Picks on Thursday.

Yeah it's Bama, Clemson, Georgia, OU, and who gives a shit. All 4 looked dominant. Texas/LSU will be an interesting game between a couple teams that could maybe fuck that up.

After the first quarter the dawgs nearly put me to sleep. Good Lord that was one of the least satisfying wins I’ve ever watched. Kirby ball is pretty dull at times.

I'm not a Herman fan either. I have it on pretty good authority that he was not a good person during his stay in Ames (he was our OC from 2009-2011). Let's just put it this way, I believe pretty much everything Zach Smith said about him based on what I heard during his time here.

But I'm definitely rooting for Texas. I actually like LSU a fair amount, and would love to see them be the SEC West representative over Bama, but Texas holding in the Top 10 through the year is good for the Big 12 putting a team in the playoff, which is good for us (unless we can win the conference ourselves, which I kind of doubt after Saturday).
