BC is a sneaky good story this year.beantownbubba wrote:Didn't realize until yesterday that Iowa State cracked the rankings. Rooting for your guys, Iowan!
And how 'bout those BC Eagles? Didn't see the final, but they were up 30 when I turned it off. Against the formerly big time program known as Florida State no less. Go Eagles!!

PSU vs. OSU is the game of the week. If you want to be mad about Game Day, be mad about last week, not this week.
Oh, PSU up 14-0 in the first 4 minutes

If I had that kind of power, I would use it for something more important than football games

I want a huge pile of one-loss teams at the end to force the committee to piss off several schools. It'll be one step closer to an 8 team playoffdime in the gutter wrote:boom. iowa state.

TCU, Penn State, South Florida, and Michigan State all go down in the span of about 20 minutes. What a day in college football.
Turn it up to 10 and rip off the knob

Two wins against Top 5 in four games is pretty damn impressive, Iowan.

In a minor surprise, it looks like Florida has beat the rest of the SEC in the race to fire their coach. Wonder if they have any specific candidates in mind or if they really wanted McElwain out THAT badly.

If you think I'm all tin foil about ESPN being anti Big 12, just look at how they discuss Ohio State and Oklahoma. Almost every personality thinks Ohio State is superior despite OU absolutely crushing them in Columbus and both being one loss teams.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong- I don't pay enough attention to what anyone on ESPN has to say about anything to know- I'm just kind of surprised that anyone cares that much one way or the otherIowan wrote:If you think I'm all tin foil about ESPN being anti Big 12, just look at how they discuss Ohio State and Oklahoma. It seems like the playoff committee buys into what they say.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:I'm not saying you're right or wrong- I don't pay enough attention to what anyone on ESPN has to say about anything to know- I'm just kind of surprised that anyone cares that much one way or the otherIowan wrote:If you think I'm all tin foil about ESPN being anti Big 12, just look at how they discuss Ohio State and Oklahoma. If the Big 12 keeps getting arbitrarily shafted, it will cease to exist and ISU risks being left out of major college sports.
If UNC's entire existence as an athletic department was so dependent on fickle, subjective perception, you'd probably care too.

Fair point. That said, I'm not sure that the existence of the UNC athletic department is something I am gonna champion these days. At this point I would have difficulty making the argument that the pro outweighs the con in college sports/sports in generalIowan wrote:It seems like the playoff committee buys into what they say.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:I'm not saying you're right or wrong- I don't pay enough attention to what anyone on ESPN has to say about anything to know- I'm just kind of surprised that anyone cares that much one way or the otherIowan wrote:If you think I'm all tin foil about ESPN being anti Big 12, just look at how they discuss Ohio State and Oklahoma. Re: college football 2014/2015/2016/2017
As I left for the airport Sat evening Penn State was still up pretty big but I said to myself, "Penn State is not going to actually lose are they?" The way the game was going at that point it sort of seemed inevitable, if there was enough time. It seemed like PS stopped doing everything that had got them up in the first place.
The Michigan State game brought back memories of another Michigan State game, the infamous Ara Parseghian Notre Dame 10-10 tie in '66. Given the possibility of OT, which didn't exist when Parseghian decided to go for the tie, Michigan State clearly made the right decision so the situations aren't really comparable, but that's what I found myself thinking about at the time.
I've been wondering if the startling disaster that is FL/FLA State football (though Miami seems to be back) has anything to do w/ the incredible rise of those other relatively new football schools in FL. Anybody have any insight on that? Separately but related, it seems pretty incredible that one state can support so many D I programs (especially while shipping so much talent out of state too).
Congrats to Iowa State! I hope they can finish out the season strong. A little change among the perennials is good. OTOH, and I suspect this is a minority view around here, the world seems more right when Notre Dame is a serious contender.
Bedlam should be very interesting this wkend, 4sooner. Boomer Sooner!!

Re: college football 2014/2015/2016/2017
If anyone needs any more proof that Butch Jones needs out at UT, we (UK) had one win over UT in the past 30+ years. Saturday night, UK lost the turnover battle 4-0, almost got doubled up in time of possession, threw for 82 yards (36 of those on a trick play by a WR) and still managed to win. Rough times on Rocky Top right now. As for UK, we're 6-2, but I still don't think we're that good. However, with the history of futility with the program, I'll take being bowl eligible in October and be thrilled with that.
