Got caught on my bike at the start of this storm. It was just straight line winds in my town, but the storm gathered strength and created several tornadoes to the east. These pics are from McGregor, Iowa, about an hour southeast of me. It's just across the Mississippi from my in-laws boat, and we haul all of our soybeans to the port here. The port will be shut down for two weeks, but a lot of these extremely well preserved historic buildings are toast.

I can't embed these, but this gives a better picture. Weather sucks.

Wow. I haven't heard about this storm, I hope there were no (or minimal) deaths.

There wasn't even an injury.

That's miraculous, and a testament to advance warning systems.

What. The. Fuck? WHATTHEFUCK???

Third nor'easter in less than 2 wks? In March? Predicting the most snowfall for this latest storm? Fuck. Get me outta here.

I think this may be too big to blame on clams. This has been officially classified as "insane" by Weather The Forecast (WTF) an organization of meteorologists who wish they went for the hourly plus OT rather than the salaried job.

I usually pride myself on being one of those Northeasterners who thinks you should pack up your bitching about the weather and move to Florida.

But for shit's sake. April 8th and its 33F and snowing. Doesn't look like we'll break 40 all week.

Got cold enough to start spitting snow at Lilly Hiatt’s set yesterday in downtown Knoxville. Of course it’s going to be 80 again in just a few days.
Turn it up to 10 and rip off the knob

6 more inches of snow on Wednesday. I've never seen anything like this.

We've had the occasional spring snow storm before, but it's once every few years, and it will warm up and melt off in a couple of days. This is a legitimate snowstorm every week for the past month, and it's getting up to maybe 45 degrees in between.

Last year this weekend it was 75 degrees and sunny.

I'm just west of Decorah. Fun.

I realize that 6-8" of snow isn't a big deal to those who get Noreasters, but that's a pretty big snowfall here, and especially in April. We usually have cold winters, with a fair amount of snow, but it usually comes down a few inches at a time. Storms over 10-12" are very rare (but it did happen early this year just west of me).

GW was talking about 15 inches in his slice of IA just the other day.

They've been getting pummeled and setting records over there. Every week they're getting a foot of snow, it seems.

They seem to get bigger and more frequent snow storms than we do. He's basically south of Estherville and west of Algona, if you're using this map.

A city in Oman just posted the world’s hottest low temperature ever recorded: 109 degrees

Over a period of 24 hours, the temperature in the coastal city of Quriyat, Oman, never dropped below 108.7 degrees (42.6 Celsius) Tuesday, most likely the highest minimum temperature ever observed on Earth.

----------

Incredibly, the temperature in Quriyat, Masters said, remained above 107.4 degrees (41.9 Celsius) for 51 straight hours. Its blistering afternoon high temperature of 121.6 degrees (49.8 Celsius) Tuesday was just about two degrees shy of Oman’s all-time heat record and its highest June temperature

so we're in the midst of a run where it has been over 100 for probably 7-10 days straight and the forecast says we're gonna have at least 10 more consecutive days of 100+. However, today it is at least 20 degrees cooler than forecast........... because there is a fire about 15 miles away and the smoke is blocking the sun
