NHL 2013-2014

Game on! Anyone catch the Caps/Black Hawks game last night? Entertaining game. NBC was showing the entire Stanley Cup banner-raising ceremony and it ran on a bit long, but the game kicked ass. Now if the Flyers could just follow suit tonight...

Blue Jackets don't open the season until Friday!

Love the switch to the Eastern Conference. No more having half the games not start until 10:30pm

I only caught snippets of the game, but the Hawks sure looked sharp. Should be another fun year.

I did see it. I was happy that the Caps at least looked good offensively. Grabowski (?) looks like an upgrade over Robeiro (?). Power play looks sharp (except for their inexplicable inability to score 5 on 3 [which haunted them last year]). Hopefully the defense will be better against teams that aren't the reigning champs. Holtby might not be as good as I once pretended he was.

Yep, I didn't see much either but did see some of the comeback in the third. I'm having a hard time with setting expectations for this year. Logic says that they won't repeat because no one does in the NHL but they are fun to watch no matter what.

Didn't watch the game but heard that Monsieur Bergeron scored an unassisted shorthanded goal. :)

He was also interviewed after the game by Jamie Erdahl.

Well Schneider didn't have the best first period last night but more troubling was all of the chances that the Devils couldn't convert. Zidlicky missed a wide open net although that would have still left us down 2 but nobody wants to get shutout on opening night. Hopefully they have better luck against the Icelanders tonight.

I have no clue why Martin Brodeur would even come back for this season (I know he still has the skills). It is going to be a looooong one for New Jersey. Last year, they lost Parise. Now, Clarkson is gone and Kovalchuk retires?! Good luck with that. Buffalo, Jersey, and Calgary will fight for the worst records this season. I just don't think Lou Lamoriello can work another miracle again.

Lightning are looking pretty good so far. So glad they made Marty a captain.

Sooner or later, (like the Flyers) there defense falls through and in turn hangs their goalie out to dry. Like their first couple of offensive lines, but don't see how they can make any headway in their new tougher division vs. Detroit, Boston, Montreal, AND Toronto.

Yeah, i am not sold on them yet, but they look to have potential. If they can gel better defensively, they can be a tough team. Thats the trick though isnt it? Its still early though so who knows.

Blackhawks are sputtering a bit out of the gate with only 1 win in 3 tries. I heard the first "fire Joel Quenneville" call this morning three games removed from winning Lord Stanley's Cup. I love Chicago fans.

...and everyone was wondering (and isn't it still quite early, yet?) when Stamkos would score his first goal of the season! How about a hat trick last night, in TB's trouncing of the Panthers?!

I guess Mike Milbury is not a fan of John Scott & the Buffalo Sabres.

...Geez, I guess not. wow. What a Bruin. Anyone catching the NHL Rivalries shows they have been doing on NBC Sportsnet? They have been pretty cool. The recent Sabres/Bruins one was ok, but since the Sabres really blow right now, it was all anticlimatic. The Blues/Black Hawks one was awesome and set up for an awesome game that night a couple of weeks ago as well.

Yeah, Milbury is most definitely a Bruin homer, but that hit was/is ridiculous. It's the very type of hit the league is trying to eliminate from the game. And when you consider who delivered it, I can understand the outrage. Even Mike's colleague, Keith Jones, was riled up.

1, that Lightning/ Blackhawks game was great! Glad Marty got the winning OT goal!
2. the 30 for 30 on John Spano is nuts!

Lightning are top of the Atlantic division.... I wonder how long their success with last. I mean, they do look GOOD. They are pretty aggressive offensively which is fun to watch. Ben Bishop is making some great saves. Just cant give up the big plays and stay healthy.

It's especially amazing considering Boston, Detroit, Toronto, and Ottawa are in that division...
